Book Description
In many past and recent earthquakes it has been shown that the local conditions and, in particular, the local geology have a great influence on the observed seismic ground motion and, consequently, on the damage distribution in housing, industrial stock, and life-lines. Seismic microzoning is the usual procedure to have these local effects taken into account for engineering design and land-use planning, being a useful tool for earthquake risk mitigation. This volume presents a collection of papers mainly originated from a workshop on Seismic Microzoning, organized during the 23rd General Assembly of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) in Nice, France in April 1998. The workshop dealt with various geophysical tools for analysing the effects of the local soils of subsurface geology on seismic ground motion, namely the methods using experimental data such as microtremors, and the theoretical/numerical 1-D and 2-D modelling methods. Additional contributions discussing techniques for characterising soil properties, microzoning applications to several urban areas, and others were added to the volume to broaden this important topic.

Book Description
Advances in Geophysics, the latest in this critically acclaimed serialized review journal that has published for over 50 years, contains the latest information available in the field. Since 1952, each volume has been eagerly awaited, frequently consulted, and praised by researchers and reviewers alike. Now in its 57th volume, it contains material still relevant today. It is truly an essential publication for researchers in all fields of geophysics. Volume 57 of Advances in Geophysics consists of three chapters of interest to a broad readership: "Limit Analysis" is reviewed and explained by Leroy and Maillot, who, apart from presenting the theoretical framework, also present their material in a pedagogic way well-suited for teaching; Malehmir et al. present the state-of-the art in high-resolution geophysical imaging of settings prone to natural hazards by explaining and showing a variety of imaging methods in their rich-illustrated contribution; The importance of light snow in relation to understanding weather and climate is presented by Gultepe et al., who highlight the importance of obtaining high-quality measurements and discuss implications for weather and climate simulations. Contains contributions from leading authorities Informs and updates on all the latest developments in the field

Book Description
This edited volume is based on the best papers accepted for presentation during the 1st Springer Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG-1), Tunisia 2018. This special volume is of interest to all researchers practicing geosphysicists/seismologists, students of PG and UG in the fields of multifaceted Geoscience. Major applications with relevant illustrations presented in the volume are from Middle East. And therefore, this book no doubt would serve as a reference guide to all geoscientists and students in the broad field of Earth Science. This volume covers significant applications of gravity and magnetic methods, electrical and electromagnetic methods, refraction and reflection seismic methods besides a large number of study on earthquakes, tectonics and geological settings etc. The salient features of this volume are the interpretation and modeling of geophysical data of different nature. Main topics include: 1. Applications of gravity and magnetic methods.2. Electrical and Electromagnetic methods in mineral and groundwater exploration.3. Case studies on refraction and reflection seismic methods.4. Integrated geoscience applications in the exploration of subsurface resources.5. Hydrocarbon and petrophysical studies6. Earthquakes and seismic hazard assessment.7. Tectonics
