LE RISQUE LIE AU TRANSPORT DE MATIERES DANGEREUSES CONSTITUE UN DES RISQUES MAJEURS. LES ACCIDENTS T.M.D. SONT CARACTERISES GENERALEMENT PAR LEUR COMPLEXITE ENVIRONNEMENTALE MAIS AUSSI PAR LA NECESSITE D'AVOIR DES INDICATIONS RAPIDES SUR LES EXTENSIONS POSSIBLES DU SINISTRE. DANS CETTE OPTIQUE, UN OUTIL D'AIDE A LA DECISION A ETE MIS AU POINT POUR FOURNIR AUX SAPEURS-POMPIERS DES INFORMATIONS SUR LES DISTANCES D'EFFETS DE PLUSIEURS SCENARII D'ACCIDENTS TECHNOLOGIQUES. LES MODELES CONCERNENT LA DISPERSION DE GAZ TOXIQUES, L'EXPLOSION DE TYPE BLEVE OU UVCE. UN MODULE COMPLEMENTAIRE DE CALCUL D'EFFET DU CONFINEMENT A ETE EGALEMENT INTEGRE. CET OUTIL A ETE DEVELOPPE DANS L'OBJECTIF DE FOURNIR DES RESULTATS RAPIDES MAIS AUSSI SUFFISAMMENT FIABLES. LA VISUALISATION DES COURBES D'ISOEFFETS A ETE ENVISAGE AU MOYEN DE SYSTEMES D'INFORMATION GEOGRAPHIQUES (S.I.G.). CEPENDANT, L'UTILISATEUR DOIT IMPERATIVEMENT CONNAITRE LES LIMITES D'UN TEL OUTIL, ETRE CONSCIENT DU POIDS DES INFORMATIONS QU'IL VA DONNER ET ETRE CAPABLE DE CONSIDERER LES RESULTATS A PARTIR DE SA PROPRE EXPERIENCE DES PHENOMENES. CETTE ETUDE S'EST COMPLETEE PAR LA REALISATION DE PLUSIEURS ESSAIS DE DISPERSION DE GAZ TOXIQUES EN VUE DE VERIFIER LES DIFFERENCES ENTRE LES DONNEES THEORIQUES ET LES DONNEES EXPERIMENTALES. IL SEMBLE IMPORTANT DE NOTER QUE NOUS AVONS REALISES UNE TENTATIVE DE VALIDATION SUR LE CHAMP PROCHE AVEC DES DEBITS RELATIVEMENT FIABLES. MEMES DANS CES CONDITIONS, LES MODELES GAUSSIENS SEMBLENT DONNER DES RESULTATS RELATIVEMENT ACCEPTABLES. CETTE APPROCHE PRUDENTE D'APPLICABILITE DES MODELES GAUSSIENS DANS LE CHAMP PROCHE SUR L'AMMONIAC NECESSITE LA MISE EN PLACE D'AUTRES TRAVAUX VISANT A LA CONFIRMER.

Book Description

Book Description
This important and insightful book provides, for the first time, a broad presentation of ongoing research into public participation in landscape conservation, management and planning, following the 2000 European Landscape Convention which came into force in 2004. The book examines both the theory of participation and what lessons can be learnt from specific European examples. It explores in what manner and to what extent the provisions for participation in the European Landscape Convention have been followed up and implemented. It also presents and compares different experiences of participation in selected countries from northern, southern, eastern and western Europe, and provides a critical examination of public participation in practice. However, while the book’s focus is necessarily on Europe, many of the conclusions drawn are of global relevance. The book provides a valuable reference for researchers and advanced students in landscape policies and management, as well as for professionals and others interested in land-use planning and environmental management.

Book Description
As the debate over health care reform continues, costs have become a critical measure in the many plans and proposals to come before us. Knowing costs is important because it allows comparisons across such disparate health conditions as AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, and cancer. This book presents the results of a major study estimating the large and largely overlooked costs of occupational injury and illness--costs as large as those for cancer and over four times the costs of AIDS. The incidence and mortality of occupational injury and illness were assessed by reviewing data from national surveys and applied an attributable-risk-proportion method. Costs were assessed using the human capital method that decomposes costs into direct categories such as medical costs and insurance administration expenses, as well as indirect categories such as lost earnings and lost fringe benefits. The total is estimated to be $155 billion and is likely to be low as it does not include costs associated with pain and suffering or of home care provided by family members. Invaluable as an aid in the analysis of policy issues, Costs of Occupational Injuryand Illness will serve as a resource and reference for economists, policy analysts, public health researchers, insurance administrators, labor unions and labor lawyers, benefits managers, and environmental scientists, among others. Book Description
Institutionalizing Gender analyzes the relationship between class, gender, and psychiatry in France from 1789 to 1900, an era noteworthy for the creation of the psychiatric profession, the development of a national asylum system, and the spread of bourgeois gender values. Asylum doctors in nineteenth-century France promoted the notion that manliness was synonymous with rationality, using this "fact" to pathologize non-normative behaviors and confine people who did not embody mainstream gender expectations to asylums. And yet, this gendering of rationality also had the power to upset prevailing dynamics between men and women. Jessie Hewitt argues that the ways that doctors used dominant gender values to find "cures" for madness inadvertently undermined both medical and masculine power—in large part because the performance of gender, as a pathway to health, had to be taught; it was not inherent. Institutionalizing Gender examines a series of controversies and clinical contexts where doctors' ideas about gender and class simultaneously legitimated authority and revealed unexpected opportunities for resistance. Mellon Foundation, through The Sustainable History Monograph Pilot, the ebook editions of this book are available as Open Access volumes from Cornell Open (cornellpress.cornell.edu/cornell-open) and other repositories.
