Ballard thruston, elected President General at the Chicago Congress, May 20, 1913, and re-elected at the Syracuse Congress, May 19, 1914, was born in Louisville, Ky., November 6, 1858; son of Andrew Jackson Ballard and his wife, Frances Ann Thruston, of that City. He occupies the unique position of being descended from those who fought on both sidesin the Revolutionary War, one of his ancestors being an officer (not a Tory) in the British Army, stationed at Fort Pitt at the time of his marriage, and after the war was over he returned to Eng land, where he died upon his estate. Six other ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War on the side of the Colonists, one of whom, at the age of 11 years and 7 months, served in his father's command in the battle of Perth Amboy, N. J.
