Book Description
Presents a study of global properties of various kinds of colorings and maps of simplicial complexes. This book studies colorings determined by groups, colorings based on regular polyhedra, and continuous colorings in finitely and infinitely many colors. It shows how colorings relate to various aspects of group theory, geometry, and graph theory.

Book Description
Since its genesis more than thirty-five years ago, the field of computer vision has been known by various names, including pattern recognitions, image analysis, and image understanding. The central problem of computer vision is obtaining descriptive information by computer analysis of images of a scene. Together with the related fields of image processing and computer graphics, it has become an established discipline at the interface between computer science and electrical engineering. This volume contains fourteen papers presented at the AMS Special Session on Geometry Related to Computer Vision, held in Hoboken, New Jersey in Ooctober 1989. This book makes the results presented at the Special Session, which previously had been available only in the computer science literature, more widely available within the mathematical sciences community. Geometry plays a major role in computer vision since scene descriptions always involve geometrical properties of, and relations among, the objects of surfaces in the scene. The papers in this book provide a good sampling of geometric problems connected with computer vision. They deal with digital lines and curves, polygons, shape decompositions, digital connectedness and surfaces, digital metrics, and generalizations to higher-dimensional and graph-structured "spaces". Aimed at computer scientists specializing in image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition - as well as mathematicians interested in applications to computer science - this book will provide readers with a view of how geometry is currently being applied to problems in computer vision.

Book Description
Intended for category theorists and logicians familiar with basic category theory, this book focuses on categorical model theory, which is concerned with the categories of models of infinitary first order theories, called accessible categories. The starting point is a characterization of accessible categories in terms of concepts familiar from Gabriel-Ulmer's theory of locally presentable categories. Most of the work centers on various constructions (such as weighted bilimits and lax colimits), which, when performed on accessible categories, yield new accessible categories. These constructions are necessarily 2-categorical in nature; the authors cover some aspects of 2-category theory, in addition to some basic model theory, and some set theory. One of the main tools used in this study is the theory of mixed sketches, which the authors specialize to give concrete results about model theory. Many examples illustrate the extent of applicability of these concepts. In particular, some applications to topos theory are given. Perhaps the book's most significant contribution is the way it sets model theory in categorical terms, opening the door for further work along these lines. Requiring a basic background in category theory, this book will provide readers with an understanding of model theory in categorical terms, familiarity with 2-categorical methods, and a useful tool for studying toposes and other categories.

Book Description
Advanced data structures is a core course in Computer Science which most graduate program in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, and other allied engineering disciplines, offer during the first year or first semester of the curriculum. The objective of this course is to enable students to have the much-needed foundation for advanced technical skill, leading to better problem-solving in their respective disciplines. Although the course is running in almost all the technical universities for decades, major changes in the syllabus have been observed due to the recent paradigm shift of computation which is more focused on huge data and internet-based technologies. Majority of the institute has been redefined their course content of advanced data structure to fit the current need and course material heavily relies on research papers because of nonavailability of the redefined text book advanced data structure. To the best of our knowledge well-known textbook on advanced data structure provides only partial coverage of the syllabus. The book offers comprehensive coverage of the most essential topics, including: Part I details advancements on basic data structures, viz., cuckoo hashing, skip list, tango tree and Fibonacci heaps and index files. Part II details data structures of different evolving data domains like special data structures, temporal data structures, external memory data structures, distributed and streaming data structures. Part III elucidates the applications of these data structures on different areas of computer science viz, network, www, DBMS, cryptography, graphics to name a few. The concepts and techniques behind each data structure and their applications have been explained. Every chapter includes a variety of Illustrative Problems pertaining to the data structure(s) detailed, a summary of the technical content of the chapter and a list of Review Questions, to reinforce the comprehension of the concepts. The book could be used both as an introductory or an advanced-level textbook for the advanced undergraduate, graduate and research programmes which offer advanced data structures as a core or an elective course. While the book is primarily meant to serve as a course material for use in the classroom, it could be used as a starting point for the beginner researcher of a specific domain.

Book Description
"Data Science Foundations is most welcome and, indeed, a piece of literature that the field is very much in need of...quite different from most data analytics texts which largely ignore foundational concepts and simply present a cookbook of methods...a very useful text and I would certainly use it in my teaching." - Mark Girolami, Warwick University Data Science encompasses the traditional disciplines of mathematics, statistics, data analysis, machine learning, and pattern recognition. This book is designed to provide a new framework for Data Science, based on a solid foundation in mathematics and computational science. It is written in an accessible style, for readers who are engaged with the subject but not necessarily experts in all aspects. It includes a wide range of case studies from diverse fields, and seeks to inspire and motivate the reader with respect to data, associated information, and derived knowledge.
