Book Description
This handbook is intended for faculty and administrators who wish to create a welcoming and safe environment for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students on our campuses. It will help readers, even those who may struggle personally with understanding non-heterosexual identities, gain a clearer understanding of the important issues facing these students. While some students arrive on campus with full clarity about their sexual identities, others may just be discovering their orientations while in our institutions. It is difficult to provide the attention LGBT students need if we do not understand the crises affecting them or how to address them. Each chapter analyzes specific issues affecting these students and offers recommendations or suggestions for change. Some of the areas discussed include: identity development theories, residence halls, career planning, health and counseling centers, HIV/AIDS, and student leadership and organizational development. Non-heterosexual faculty and staff may also find this work useful as they attempt to discover themselves in academic and educational literature. Book Description
In the U.S. approximately one percent of the population (2.6 million) have a bipolar disorder -- also called manic-depressive illness -- characterized by mood cycles of depression and mania (excessive elation, activity, talkativeness, etc.). Because bipolar illness has genetic tendencies, it affects those from all walks of life, but the majority of persons with the illness don't seek help. Most have been misunderstood, rejected, shunned, and disliked because of the disorder, and they struggle against preconceived ideas and prejudices -- but all seek answers, health, freedom, hope, and love. For someone with bipolar disorder, education and knowledge about the illness are necessary for successful treatment. Until now, few road maps have been available. In this book, the pieces that compose the bipolar puzzle come together in a unique question-and-answer format. Written by a bipolar sufferer, co-author Bryan L. Court, typical questions heard in bipolar support groups are provided and each is followed by an in-depth answer. Each topical section also includes an extensive Psychiatrist's Response by co-author Gerald E. Nelson, M.D., who has been working with bipolar disordered individuals for over 20 years. Covering the whole person -- physical, emotional, and spiritual components of recovery -- this book is essential for individuals suffering from bipolar disorder, as well as their loved ones and helping professionals. Answering questions about bipolar illness and how to live with it, this book addresses 187 recovery-related questions over the broad range of interest to the patient, family, and friend, and utilizes the same question-and-answer format heard in bipolar support groups. Subjects cover a wide spectrum, including: understanding the illness; treatment methods; medications; attitudes; acceptance; faith; living problems; relationships with friends, family, and psychiatrists; support groups; disability; hospitalization; and employment difficulties. The answers were obtained from a psychiatrist, a labor law attorney, and a hospital worker. A psychiatrist (Nelson) reviewed the answers to the questions and provided a response to each section of the book.

Book Description
There are approximately 111 separate sects and denominations that are classified as Oneness Pentecostal Churches. These congregations are found in nearly every city and town in the United States, as well as around the world. They get their distinctive name from the fact that they do not believe in the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity. They believe that all who do believe in the Trinity are spiritually lost because they have adopted a pagan doctrine. They differ from other Pentecostals and the rest of the historical church on several important issues, earning them the title of a Pseudo-Christian Cult by established cult watching organizations and cult experts. The book, Oneness Pentecostal Churches, examines the claims, doctrines and practices of these fellowships. It addresses the issues in a manner comprehensive enough to satisfy the professional minister, yet clear enough to meet the needs of laypeople who are seeking answers about this significant movement. The questions discussed in the book include: 1.) Who are Oneness Pentecostals? 2.)Why are Oneness Pentecostals called "the people of the name"? 3.)Is the doctrine of the Trinity really pagan? 4.)Is there a three step pathway to salvation? 5.)Does water baptism save? 6.)Is speaking in tongues required for salvation? For those interested in understanding the Oneness Pentecostal movement, this book is required reading.

Book Description
There are numerous texts written about the rapture and the end times. A brief excursion to your local Christian bookstore will provide ample evidence of the interest in this topic. From time to time people will attempt to give their text a twist or a slant in order to make their text different from the others. Nevertheless, most books about the rapture present the standard pretribulational argument, and their unique nesses rest primarily in the contemporary issues which have stimulated the renewed discussion. New developments in the Middle East will usually generate a new set of books. Today the New World Order, Y2K, and even El Nino have provided fresh grist for predicting an imminent rapture. The interest, enthusiasm, publications, and even movies about the rapture are still increasing. A series of fictional novels about the tribulation period are cranked out monthly. Recent Hollywood motion pictures, including "Left Behind", are based upon this. This book is different for several reasons. It does not emphasize any contemporary issue or current events which relate to the pretribulational scenario. Instead, it will spend its energies on specific biblical principles and doctrines, and leave the application of those doctrines to the reader. What is more unique is that this book promotes a posttribulational rapture, a position which is different from most of the other books, and it critiques the theology of the pretribulational rapture which is the foundation for most of the other texts. Books which promote a posttribulational rapture are few, indeed, and they are often too technical for the average lay-person. There is a need for a book which is a comprehensive look at the rapture question, and yet attempts to keep the language more understandable. To achieve the goal of being comprehensive, this book is divided into three parts: 1.) a critique of the major arguments for a pretribulational rapture, 2.) an analysis of the major biblical sections which discuss the rapture, and 3.) a selective commentary on the Book of Revelation. The first section defines and evaluates the major pretribulational arguments. These arguments are repeated time and again in books promoting a pretribulational rapture. They are significant because they either help sustain a pretribulational rapture if justified, or they weaken it significantly if not. " The church is not destined for wrath." "The rapture must be imminent." "The distinction between the church and Israel." "The posttribulationists spiritualize the Bible." "The types and parables teach a pretribulational rapture." "The differences between the rapture and second coming." The second part of the book is an exposition of the major sections of the Bible which discuss the rapture. As the first part writes from the perspective of systematic theology, the second part deals with biblical theology. The Bible is evaluated independently from a system of theology, and attempts to interpret the major texts on the rapture. Here are the passages to be addressed. "The rapture passages in the Gospels." "The rapture passages In First and Second Thessalonians." "The rapture passages in First Corinthians." "The rapture passages in Second Peter". The third part focuses upon the Book of Revelation. No discussion of the issue of the rapture or eschatology could be complete without including a discussion on this book. This book is both complicated and controversial, and my intent is not to write a complete commentary about Revelation, but only to discuss what is necessary to

Book Description
Question answering (QA) systems on the Web try to provide crisp answers to information needs posed in natural language, replacing the traditional ranked list of documents. QA, posing a multitude of research challenges, has emerged as one of the most actively investigated topics in information retrieval, natural language processing, and the artificial intelligence communities today. The flip side of such diverse and active interest is that publications are highly fragmented across several venues in the above communities, making it very difficult for new entrants to the field to get a good overview of the topic. Through this book, we make an attempt towards mitigating the above problem by providing an overview of the state-of-the-art in question answering. We cover the twin paradigms of curated Web sources used in QA tasks ‒ trusted text collections like Wikipedia, and objective information distilled into large-scale knowledge bases. We discuss distinct methodologies that have been applied to solve the QA problem in both these paradigms, using instantiations of recent systems for illustration. We begin with an overview of the problem setup and evaluation, cover notable sub-topics like open-domain, multi-hop, and conversational QA in depth, and conclude with key insights and emerging topics. We believe that this resource is a valuable contribution towards a unified view on QA, helping graduate students and researchers planning to work on this topic in the near future.
