Creativity is inherent to the Nursing profession, it lies at the very heart of Nursing. The myriad of unprecedented challenges not only at the bedside, but also challenges pertaining to other issues influencing healthcare and healthcare delivery, presents the need for the contemporary nurse to be creative in her endeavors to be able to provide excellent nursing care. Since Nursing is the heart of healthcare, nurses are placed on a positional advantage to affect patients and patient care. Specifically, pediatric nurses play an important role not only in the sick child's growth and development, but also of the family's experience of it. Bringing out the best in a pediatric nurse's creativity and scientific application will result to excellent nursing care. This study aims to measure the creativity of pediatric nurses, and how it is influenced by factors such as age, years of practice, perceived level of clinical competence and perceived extent of role performance. This study utilized the Abbreviated Torrance Test for Adults (ATTA), which is a standardized tool that measures creativity, and an appraisal tool that measures perceived level of competency, perceived extent of role performance, pediatric nurse's years of experience and age. Pearson correlation was employed to ascertain the relationship between creativity and the pediatric nurse's age, years of experience, perceived level of competency and perceived extent of role performance. Results of the study indicate that there is a Moderate Negative Correlation between Nurses' Creativity based on the ATTA and Age (Pearson rho = -.433), Length of experience (Pearson rho = -.567), Self-reported Level of Competence (Pearson rho =-.567). While there is no significant relationship between the Nurses' Creativity based on the ATTA and Self-reported Extent of Role Performance (Pearson rho=-.354).
