Corgi Toys
Author: David Cooke
Publisher: Shire Publications
ISBN: 9780747806677
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Although the name "Corgi Toys" was not introduced until 1955, the roots of the original holding company, Mettoy, go back to 1932 when a German toymaker called Philipp Ullmann arrived in Britain to form a new toy manufacturing company. This company produced many types of toys, both before and after the Second World War, mainly in tinplate. In the 1950s Mettoy began to produce diecast metal toys and hence, in 1956 the first Corgi Toys were released to the children's toy market and proved an immediate success. Over the next 30 years hundreds of miniature vehicles would be modeled on contemporary vehicles such as Vauxhalls, Rileys, Hillmans, Standards, Commers and ERFs. Corgi also made daring and successful ventures into film-and-TV related toys with their versions of James Bond, The Saint and Batmobile cars selling millions. Life-long collector David Cooke explores the history of Corgi Toys, describing the various models and illustrating how these simple children's toys became valuable collectables. He also charts the recent financial problems faced by the company, and their resurgence based upon Limited Edition collectors' models sold direct to an adult market.

Diecast Toy Cars of the 1950s & 1960s
Author: Andrew Ralston
Publisher: Veloce Publishing
ISBN: 9781845841805
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Collecting diecast toy cars has become an increasingly popular hobby over the last 25 years. Many of the classic diecast cars of the 1950s and 1960s are now valuable collectors’ items, and surviving examples in mint and boxed condition regularly fetch significant sums at specialist auctions. This book provides a comprehensive survey of the companies that made these toys in the 1950s and 1960s, not only in Britain but in other European countries, the USA, Japan and beyond. Major names such as Dinky Toys, Corgi Toys, Spot-On and Matchbox (Great Britain), Solido (France), Marklin and Gama (Germany ), Tekno (Denmark) and Tootsietoy (USA) are examined, but a unique feature of the book is the wealth of information provided on many smaller and more obscure brands. These include Crescent, Budgie, Chad Valley and Lone Star (UK), CIJ and JRD (France), Dalia (Spain), Buby (Argentina), Gamda (Israel) and many others about which information is hard to come by. A special chapter is devoted to early Japanese diecast models by Cherryca Phenix, Model Pet and Diapet, which are among the rarest and most sought-after of all diecasts. Fascinating insights into company histories are provided, together with 250 photographs of rare examples of the toys themselves, in mint condition with their original boxes. A further unique feature is the inclusion of a large selection of colorful and evocative illustrations from catalogs and period trade advertisements. For the newcomer to the collecting hobby, this book will provide an ideal guide to the history of the manufacturers active in this field, while experienced collectors will make many new discoveries. At the end of the book, readers will find a handy glossary listing the names of many of the companies that manufactured diecast toy cars in the 1950s and 1960s.

Author: Bill Manzke
Publisher: Schiffer + ORM
ISBN: 1507305702
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 700
Book Description
Hop in for a complete tour of the tiny world this British toy maker created. Explore four decades of diecast production, following the route the industry took as it shed outdated techniques for state-of-the-art cars James Bond would have been proud of. Written from the unique perspective of an American collector, the book presents topics never before discussed in print, chronicling the rise, fall, and rebirth of Corgi Toys, all illustrated with hundreds of color photos of models and memorabilia never before seen in print. The smaller Husky and Corgi Juniors lines, often neglected in other books, are also covered. Other sections examine Corgi clubs, marketing, packaging, memorabilia, and special interest groupings. Most importantly, this encyclopedia presents the most complete variation listing and value guide published to date, including sections covering Corgi, Husky, and Juniors models from their introduction through the present day.
