Les greffes gingivales font partie intégrante de la chirurgie muco-gingivale , ou chirurgie plastique parodontale. La greffe épithélio-conjonctive (Björn, 1963) et la greffe de conjonctif enfoui ou non (Edel, 1974; Raetzke, 1985) sont qualifiées de greffes gingivales libres, par opposition aux techniques usuelles de greffes pédiculées que sont les différents types de lambeaux. Malgré l'avantage esthétique souvent plus prévisible que procure la greffe de conjonctif enfoui et l'engouement qu'elle suscite, la greffe épithélio-conjonctive conserve toutefois un intérêt clinique inégalé dans certaines situations. En effet, la greffe épithélio-conjonctive révèle avoir un intérêt particulier dans certains domaines de la chirurgie parodontale. Comprendre la subtilité de son utilisation passe nécessairement par la connaissance histologique et clinique des acteurs en présence. Enfin, la cicatrisation de cette greffe présente , comme toute cicatrisation, d'éventuelles complications, mais laisse entrevoir de belles perspectives. Par souci d'objectivité, une analyse critique de quelques articles de la thèse a été réalisée selon les recommandations de 1'ANAES.
