Book Description
HARAV YEHOSHUA HESCHEL -THE REBBE R' HESCHEL Although generally not that well known in our time, Rav Yehoshua Heschel (1595 - 1663), was revered as the leader of his generation. His opinions were sought by all of the gedolim of his time and his halachic decisions appear in the Shach, Noda B'Yehuda, Chasam Sofer, Chelkas Mechokeik Chacham Tzvi and in many other seforim If one wanted to gauge his influence on Klal Yisroel, one would just have to open a Shulchan Aruch and see his many talmidim who grace its pages. Although commonly known as the Shach's Rebbi, in reality his talmidim included, the Taz, the Bais Shmuel, the Avodas Gershuni, the Tiferes L'Moshe, the Chelkas Mechokeik and many others. In addition to being one of the greatest marbitzei Torah of his era, Rav Heschel was extremely dedicated to taking care of his people's needs. Rav Heschel was beloved by all members of society and as such was commonly known as 'The Rebbe Rav Heschel'. THE CHANUKAS HATORAH Although most of Rav Heschel's seforim have never been printed, his ingenious vertlach on Chumash have been preserved in the sefer "Chanukas HaTorah". These brilliant vertlach have excited the Jewish mind for the last four hundred years. Indeed, it has been said that during our long and bitter golus, a Torah Jew could always rely on a good vort (or story) from the Rebbe R' Hershel to lift his spirits. We now present these divrei Torah in an easy to understand English, so that many more will be able to enjoy the creative genius of this Torah giant. RABBI MORDECHAI KOSTER Rabbi Mordechai Koster is presently a member of the kollel at Bais Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, where he received his semichah. He has written several seforim on halacha and on the moadim entitled Gevuras Akiva. In addition, he gives a daily halacha phone shiur (see page 219) and releases a gilyon on the parsha in halacha and aggada every week. Rabbi Koster previously learned at Yeshiva Darchei Torah, Yeshiva of Far Rockaway, Yeshiva Shaar HaTorah and Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.

Book Description
A Linguistic Journey from Eden to Israel Throughout Jewish literature, the Hebrew language is referred to as Lashon HaKodesh. Its history, origins, decline, and rebirth are simply fascinating. Furthermore, at its deepest level, Lashon HaKodesh is called such (“the Holy Language”) because it is intrinsically sacred – and is thus unlike any other language known to Man. Lashon HaKodesh: History, Holiness, & Hebrew seeks to understand the holiness of Lashon HaKodesh, follows its history, and focuses on the significance of Aramaic and other ‘Jewish languages’ such as Yiddish and Ladino. An extended section is devoted to Modern Hebrew, its controversies, and its implications from a religious perspective. This unique work delves into the linguistic history of each ‘Jewish language’, as well as the philological, Kabbalistic, and Halachic approaches to this topic taken by various Rabbinic figures through the ages. The author also compares and contrasts traditional Jewish views to those of modern-day academia, offering proofs and difficulties to both approaches. As the old saying goes, “Two Jews, three opinions.” In almost every chapter, more than one way of looking at the matter at hand is presented. In some cases, the differing opinions can be harmonized, but ultimately many matters remain subject to dispute. Hopefully, the mere knowledge of these sources will whet the reader’s intellectual curiosity to learn more. Written by a brilliant young scholar, Lashon HaKodesh: History, Holiness, & Hebrew is ground-breaking, intriguing, and truly remarkable.
