Book Description
LA PREMIERE PARTIE DE CETTE THESE TRAITE DES CHAINES DE SPINS QUANTIQUES. ON ETUDIE TOUT D'ABORD DES SYSTEMES DE SPINS QUANTIQUES QUI SONT RELIES DE FACON CONTINUE A LA CHAINE DE HEISENBERG S = 1. LA CONSTRUCTION D'UN MODELE SIGMA NON-LINEAIRE PERMET D'ESTIMER LE GAP DE CES SYSTEMES. ON ETUDIE ENSUITE UNE CHAINE DE SPINS S = 1/2 DOPEE PAR DES IMPURETES NON-MAGNETIQUES POSSEDANT UN SPIN NUCLEAIRE. A L'AIDE DE TECHNIQUES DE BOSONISATION, ON CALCULE ANALYTIQUEMENT LE TEMPS DE RELAXATION LONGITUDINAL D'UNE IMPURETE EN FONCTION DE LA TEMPERATURE, CORRECTIONS LOGARITHMIQUES INCLUSES. CE TYPE D'ANALYSE EST EGALEMENT MENE SUR UN LIQUIDE DE LUTTINGER CHIRAL, MODELISANT PAR EXEMPLE UN DEMI-FIL QUANTIQUE. LA DEUXIEME PARTIE EST CONSACREE AUX SYSTEMES DESORDONNES EN BASSE DIMENSION. DES LIENS FORMELS SONT ECLAIRCIS ENTRE MODELE DESORDONNE SUR RESEAU, FERMIONS DE DIRAC EN MILIEU ALEATOIRE, CHAINES DE SPINS SUPERSYMETRIQUES NON-COMPACTES ET MODELE SIGMA NON-LINEAIRE. LE DETAIL DES CALCULS EST DONNE SUR L'EXEMPLE DE LA TRANSITION ENTRE PLATEAUX DE L'EFFET HALL QUANTIQUE ENTIER. ON CALCULE ENSUITE EXACTEMENT LES DENSITES D'ETATS ET LES LONGUEURS DE LOCALISATION TYPIQUES D'UN FERMION DE DIRAC EN DIMENSION 1 DANS DES POTENTIELS ALEATOIRES DE DIFFERENTES NATURES. DE NOMBREUX MODELES DE THEORIE DE LA MATIERE CONDENSEE, COMME PAR EXEMPLE LA CHAINE XX DESORDONNEE, SE RAMENENT A CE SYSTEME. PUIS NOUS ETUDIONS LES FERMIONS DE DIRAC EN DIMENSION 2 EN MILIEU ALEATOIRE. PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT, NOUS ANALYSONS LE CAS DE FERMIONS EN MASSE ALEATOIRE. CE MODELE DECRIT LES EXCITATIONS DE BASSE ENERGIE D'UN SUPRACONDUCTEUR D'ONDE D DONT LES IMPURETES SONT MAGNETIQUES. UN DIAGRAMME DE PHASE EST PROPOSE. IL S'ARTICULE AUTOUR DU POINT TRICRITIQUE DES FERMIONS DE DIRAC LIBRES ET FAIT APPARAITRE UNE PHASE METALLIQUE THERMIQUE INATTENDUE.

Book Description
This book is a collection of essays which examine how the properties of aggregate variables are influenced by the actions and interactions of heterogenous individuals in different economic contexts. The common denominator of the essays is a critique of the representative agent hypothesis. If this hypothesis were correct, the behaviour of the aggregate variable would simply be the reproduction of individual optimising behaviour. In the methodology of the hard sciences, one of the achievements of the quantum revolution has been the rebuttal of the notion that aggregate behaviour can be explained on the basis of the behaviour of a single unit: the elementary particle does not even exist as a single entity but as a network, a system of interacting units. In this book, new tracks in economics which parallel the developments in physics mentioned above are explored. The essays, in fact are contributions to the analysis of the economy as a complex evolving system of interacting agents.

Book Description
In the slightly more than thirty years since its formulation, the Hubbard model has become a central component of modern many-body physics. It provides a paradigm for strongly correlated, interacting electronic systems and offers insights not only into the general underlying mathematical structure of many-body systems but also into the experimental behavior of many novel electronic materials. In condensed matter physics, the Hubbard model represents the simplest theoret ical framework for describing interacting electrons in a crystal lattice. Containing only two explicit parameters - the ratio ("Ujt") between the Coulomb repulsion and the kinetic energy of the electrons, and the filling (p) of the available electronic band - and one implicit parameter - the structure of the underlying lattice - it appears nonetheless capable of capturing behavior ranging from metallic to insulating and from magnetism to superconductivity. Introduced originally as a model of magnetism of transition met als, the Hubbard model has seen a spectacular recent renaissance in connection with possible applications to high-Tc superconductivity, for which particular emphasis has been placed on the phase diagram of the two-dimensional variant of the model. In mathematical physics, the Hubbard model has also had an essential role. The solution by Lieb and Wu of the one-dimensional Hubbard model by Bethe Ansatz provided the stimulus for a broad and continuing effort to study "solvable" many-body models. In higher dimensions, there have been important but isolated exact results (e. g. , N agoaka's Theorem).
