Using MHC-defined reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) transformed cell lines stably expressing MDV gene as target cells in chromium release assays, MDV-specific CD8 + cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses can be demonstrated in chickens inoculated with MDV. Similar to herpes simplex virus-specific CTL responses, MDV-specific CTL responses might play pivotal roles in inducing protection.
