Book Description
Booby or Jordan? That was the one question that Lenika needed the answer to more than anything. She’d spent enough of her life thinking and praying about her first love, it was time she found out the truth. Having been sexually and emotionally abused Diara has learned to keep her sweet heart to herself. In her life, love held a lack of permanence, and before she allowed herself to be let down again, she’d stay alone. Manipulative as they come, Riley and Gucci are two of the most conniving men in the state of Georgia. Full of themselves and feeling invincible, both men continue to lurk around wreaking havoc on others, with no signs of remorse... until the tables are turned.

Book Description
What do you do when you’re attractive, yet self-conscious? Sweet but not innocent? Bruised but not broken? You find someone who is tough enough, and willing to love you past your flaws. You engage in a relationship with a person who can be strong where you’re weak, and build you up where you’re torn down. Just when Diara thought she’d never find love, along came Cordell. Alike, yet so different, Cordell and Diara embark on an unlikely journey of hope that unexpectedly ends in love. Jordan Grier is a young boss who has reigned heavy in the streets since he was a child. Growing up in a family full of drug dealers, Jordan is no stranger to the street life. Anything regarding drugs, guns, and money, he handles it like the king he is, but when love is thrown into the mix, he has to work a little harder to remain on top. Though she’s the daughter of a street king and a well-known face in the neighborhood, Lenika isn’t properly introduced to the game until she involves herself with Jordan. Unlike her father, Jordan isn’t sheltering her from the game. He gives her all of him at all times, not hiding anything until an unbearable tragedy strikes and he’s forced to shatter her heart with his departure. Young Love is beautiful, but old love is better...

Handbook of the Linguistic Atlas of the Middle and South Atlantic States
Author: William A. Kretzschmar
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 9780226452838
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 476
Book Description
Who uses "skeeter hawk," "snake doctor," and "dragonfly" to refer to the same insect? Who says "gum band" instead of "rubber band"? The answers can be found in the Linguistic Atlas of the Middle and South Atlantic States (LAMSAS), the largest single survey of regional and social differences in spoken American English. It covers the region from New York state to northern Florida and from the coastline to the borders of Ohio and Kentucky. Through interviews with nearly twelve hundred people conducted during the 1930s and 1940s, the LAMSAS mapped regional variations in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation at a time when population movements were more limited than they are today, thus providing a unique look at the correspondence of language and settlement patterns. This handbook is an essential guide to the LAMSAS project, laying out its history and describing its scope and methodology. In addition, the handbook reveals biographical information about the informants and social histories of the communities in which they lived, including primary settlement areas of the original colonies. Dialectologists will rely on it for understanding the LAMSAS, and historians will find it valuable for its original historical research. Since much of the LAMSAS questionnaire concerns rural terms, the data collected from the interviews can pinpoint such language differences as those between areas of plantation and small-farm agriculture. For example, LAMSAS reveals that two waves of settlement through the Appalachians created two distinct speech types. Settlers coming into Georgia and other parts of the Upper South through the Shenandoah Valley and on to the western side of the mountain range had a Pennsylvania-influenced dialect, and were typically small farmers. Those who settled the Deep South in the rich lowlands and plateaus tended to be plantation farmers from Virginia and the Carolinas who retained the vocabulary and speech patterns of coastal areas. With these revealing findings, the LAMSAS represents a benchmark study of the English language, and this handbook is an indispensable guide to its riches.
