Book Description
Excerpt from Catalysis in Industrial Chemistry Many other examples might be quoted, but at the same time it must be admitted that in at least Some cases of heterogeneous catalysis the physical theory appears to offer the only explanation of the action of the catalyst. It was long ago recognized that a catalyst has the same Chemical composition at the end of the reaction in which it has exerted an in uence. As at the beginning, but it must not be concluded that its physical state is necessarily the same after the reaction is over. On the contrary, the change in physical condition which in many cases the catalyst has undergone Shows that it has taken an active part in the reaction in the sense that an intermediate compound has been formed. For instance, when ammonia is decomposed into its elements by contact with heated metals there is a complete alteration in the physical state of the latter, which is undoubtedly due to the continuous formation and decomposition of metallic nitrides. Book Description
Excerpt from Catalysis and Its Industrial Applications The subject-matter of this book appeared originally in The Chemical World. The outbreak of war and the fact that the author accepted a commission in His majesty's forces has made it impossible to add certain additional details as originally intended. The subject-matter, therefore, remains in practically its original form. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Industrial Catalysis: Chemistry and Mechanism is an essential textbook for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in the underlying concepts of catalysis, industrial organic chemistry and the mechanism of catalysis. For undergraduates it provides an introduction to the basic catalytic principles and industrial processes. Graduate students will find that the book gives an in-depth understanding of the mechanism of catalytic surface intermediates and the practice of modern catalysis research. For the post graduate and industrial chemist involved in catalysis research, it is a valuable reference text as a compendium of mechanisms by which major industrial catalytic processes operate. This unique book fills the gap between basic organic chemistry and fundamental chemical principles of catalysis, and is a must read for students and researchers in the field.

Book Description
Catalysis is a multidisciplinary subject. This book introduces the chemical, materials, and engineering principles of catalysis so that both MSc and PhD students with a basic but not extensive knowledge of chemistry and physics and those with a basic understanding of chemical engineering can learn more about catalysis. Examples are taken from catalytic reactions and catalysts used in the energy, petroleum, and base-chemicals industry. The second edition differs from the first edition in the way basic topics are integrated with catalytic applications. The authors introduce two new chapters: 'Cleaning of Fuels by Hydrotreating' and 'Electrocatalysis'. Hydrotreating is a very important industrial process and offers the opportunity to discuss metal sulfide catalysts. Electrocatalysis gains more and more attention because it can be used to minimize the anthropogenic CO₂ emissions. Solar, wind, and hydroelectricity can drive water electrolysis and CO₂ electroreduction and, therefore, excess renewable electricity can be stored in chemicals.Introduction to Heterogeneous Catalysis (Second Edition) is intended for a one-semester course for master and PhD students who want to learn more about the principles of catalysis. This must-read textbook will enable students to read catalysis literature without much difficulty and presents not only the basic concepts of catalysis but integrates the chemical, materials, and engineering aspects of catalysis with industry examples.
