Book Description
Deals with a new and promising field developed during the last two decades on the boundary between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. This book presents general information on catalysis for a wide range of organic reactions, e.g., hydrogenation and oxidation reactions, and polymerization transformations. Special attention is paid to electro- and photochemical stimulation of catalytic processes in the presence of immobilized metal complexes. Other topics covered are the quantitative data on the comparison of catalyses by mobile and immobilized metal complexes; main factors affecting the activity of these catalytic systems and methods of optimizing their control; and specific problems of catalysis by fixed complexes (e.g., ligand exchange and electron transfer in metal polymer systems, macromolecular effects and polyfunctional catalysis).

Book Description
It is now IS years since the first patents in polymer supported metal complex catalysts were taken out. In the early days ion-exchange resins were used to support ionic metal complexes. Soon covalent links were developed, and after an initially slow start there was a period of explosive growth in the mid to late 1970s during which virtually every homogeneous metal complex catalyst ever reported was also studied bound to a support. Both polymers and inorganic oxides were studied as supports, although the great preponderance of workers studied polymeric supports, and of these polystyrene was by far the commonest used. This period served to show that by very careful design polymer-supported metal complex catalysts could have specific advantages over homogeneous metal complex catalysts. However the subject was a complicated one. Merely immobilising a successful metal complex catalyst to a functionalised support rarely yielded other than an inferior version of the catalyst. Amongst the many discouraging results of the 1970s, there were more than enough results that were sufficiently encouraging to demonstrate that, by careful design, supported metal complex catalysts could be prepared in which both the metal complex and the support combined together to produce an active catalyst which, due to the combination of support and complex, had advantages of activity, selectivity and specificity not found in homogeneous catalysts. Thus a new generation of catalysts was being developed.

Book Description
Encapsulated Catalysts provides valuable information for chemists, chemical engineers, and materials scientists in this promising area. The book describes many kinds of encapsulated catalysts and their applications in chemistry, including organic, inorganic, hybrid, and biological systems. Unlike other works, which discuss traditional supports, this useful resource uniquely focuses on extremely important topics, such as the encapsulation effects on reactivity and selectivity, the difficulty of their separation from reaction mixture, and/or their sensitivity to reaction conditions, and the limit of their industrial applications. In addition, the book covers the immobilization of homogenous catalysts on inorganic or organic supports and how it enables the separation of homogenous catalysts, as well as the protection or reuse of catalysts. - Discusses one of the most promising advances in catalysis and recent developments in the area, including enzyme mimic catalysts and new nano-materials for catalyst encapsulation - Provides interdisciplinary coverage of organic, inorganic, and biological materials for encapsulation of catalysts - Describes various types of reactions which can be catalyzed in presence of encapsulated catalysts

Book Description
This book overviews methods for the synthesis of metal-containing monomers with various types of metal bonds to the organic moiety of the molecule, such as ionic, covalent, donor-acceptor, and others. Published data on homopolymerization, copolymerization, and graft polymerization of these monomers are generalized. Synthesis and Polymerization of Metal-Containing Monomers discusses features typical of the molecular and structural organization of the resulting metal-containing polymers, their properties and the associated major applications, such as catalytical and biological activity, electrophysical characteristics, and thermal resistance.

Book Description
The 9th IUPAC International Symposium on Macromolecule–Metal Complexes (MMC–9) was held at the Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, NY ; August 19–23,2001. The topics addressed included: – macromolecule–metal complexes in "green Chemistry" – polyelectrolytes and polymer batteries – electronic, magnetic and optical properties of macromolecule–metal complexes – biorelated complexes – physical properties The role of metal ions, complexes and clusters inmacromolecular systems was discussed wherein the polymer systems were either natural or synthetic (organic or inorganic). Plenary and selected lectures are presented in this volume of Macromolecular Symposia. This text is intended for scientists, engineers and other technical personnel who seek a current assessment of the rapidly growing field of macromolecule–metal complexes.

Book Description
This book presents and analyzes the essential data on nanoscale metal clusters dispersed in, or chemically bonded with polymers. Special attention is paid to the in situ synthesis of the nanocomposites, their chemical interactions, and the size and distribution of the particles in the polymer matrix. Numerous novel nanocomposites are described with regard to their mechanical, electrophysical, optical, magnetic, catalytic and biological properties. Their applications, present and future, are outlined.
