Book Description
Plasma catalysis is gaining increasing interest for various gas conversion applications, such as CO2 conversion into value-added chemicals and fuels, N2 fixation for the synthesis of NH3 or NOx, methane conversion into higher hydrocarbons or oxygenates. It is also widely used for air pollution control (e.g., VOC remediation). Plasma catalysis allows thermodynamically difficult reactions to proceed at ambient pressure and temperature, due to activation of the gas molecules by energetic electrons created in the plasma. However, plasma is very reactive but not selective, and thus a catalyst is needed to improve the selectivity. In spite of the growing interest in plasma catalysis, the underlying mechanisms of the (possible) synergy between plasma and catalyst are not yet fully understood. Indeed, plasma catalysis is quite complicated, as the plasma will affect the catalyst and vice versa. Moreover, due to the reactive plasma environment, the most suitable catalysts will probably be different from thermal catalysts. More research is needed to better understand the plasma–catalyst interactions, in order to further improve the applications.

Book Description
This easy-to-read work is a comprehensive review which focuses primarily on catalytic methanol synthesis. It includes a historic summary of the development of methanol synthesis technology, as well as extensive discussions on statistical experimental design, fabrication and operation of laboratory scale systems. This unique volume also discusses various new catalysts and processes, with special attention to the thermodynamics of methanol synthesis-especially in relation to the new liquid phase process. The comprehensive and practical approach to chemical and synfuel process development makes it an excellent reference in methanol synthesis, reactor design, and scale-up. Written as a practical guide to researchers who are involved in hands-on process research, this book is also a valuable asset to practicing chemical engineers and graduate students interested in reaction engineering, thermodynamics, catalyst development and process design.

Book Description
Due to the substantial increase in anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over the past century, multiple technologies are being explored to capture this greenhouse gas and utilize it as a viable feedstock. A promising outlet for CO2 is hydrogenation to methanol. Methanol is widely used in the chemical industry, primarily in the production of formaldehyde, methyl-tert-butyl-ether, and acetic acid, as well as an alternative to traditional fuels due to its superior combustion properties. In addition, significant research is ongoing to utilize methanol as an energy carrier for use in fuel cells. Significant research has been done to understand the kinetic performance of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst for methanol synthesis, however, much of this research involves lower pressures (

Book Description
This book provides an analysis of the reaction mechanisms relevant to a number of processes in which CO2 is converted into valuable products. Several different processes are considered that convert CO2 either in specialty chemicals or in bulk products or fuels. For each reaction, the mechanism is discussed and the assessed steps besides the dark sites of the reaction pathway are highlighted. From the insertion of CO2 into E-X bonds to the reduction of CO2 to CO or other C1 molecules or else to C2 or Cn molecules, the reactions are analysed in order to highlight the known and obscure reaction steps. Besides well known reaction mechanisms and energy profiles, several lesser known situations are discussed. Advancing knowledge of the latter would help to develop efficient routes for the conversion of CO2 into valuable products useful either in the chemical or in the energy industry. The content of this book is quite different from other books reporting the use of CO2. On account of its clear presentation, “Reaction Mechanisms in Carbon Dioxide Conversion” targets in particular researchers, teachers and PhD students.
