Book Description
"This 'Case Studies in Economic Survival: Experiences from Sri Lanka' is the product of the Business Forum, one of the main events featuring under the 19th International Conference on Business Management (ICBM) - 2022 organized by the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka. The purpose of publishing Case Studies in this nature is to help people learn the body of knowledge we call management and then apply it to their business organizations. The book is arranged in a logical sequence of case studies that continually builds on and connects with the chosen theoretical perspectives. This book also creates a platform to a meaningful partnership between the academia and the industry to support the growth of the next generation of businesses and their leaders. It has been kept to a reasonable length with seven stories of different organizations that have been connected into a cohesive body of knowledge. These stories typically provide wide-ranging evidence about the business situations in question, the problems encountered in the pandemic, how they were approached, and to what results. The ICBM 2022 in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka makes history by launching this case study book exposing resilient organizations in Sri Lanka that surmounted challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Consistent with the pertinent theme of the ICBM 2022 conference, "Equitable Recovery Amidst Economic Crisis: Post-Pandemic Challenges and the Way Forward", we initiated writing of the 'Case Studies in Economic Survival: Experiences from Sri Lanka' as a collaborative endeavor by the academia and the industry. These meticulously and scholastically developed case studies fill the gap hitherto left by the dearth of case studies carried out in the Sri Lankan context. Professionals in different fields may use case studies as part of their research into various issues of interest for their organizations"--

Book Description
The book provides a new conceptualisation of inflation in underdeveloped economies, through Sri Lanka’s historical experience. It outlines a general theory of nationalisms in their diverse manifestations across the world, within a historical perspective of capitalist development and underdevelopment. The book, therefore, seeks to capture the production mode holistically, within both its infrastructural and superstructural levels probing their interactions. The theoretical structure through which inflation is analysed synthesises the theory of unproductive labour and Marxian theory of prices of production with labour surplus theory of late Dr. S. B. D. De Silva in the context of underdevelopment. In this light, Professor David Laibman’s Allocation Problem is resolved within a Marxist framework to provide an operational significance to the theory and its application. In the same vein the book also provides a new theoretical interpretation of Sri Lanka’s historical development from the British period onwards through application of theories of capitalist development and surplus labour.

Book Description
This volume studies the new migratory flows among Asian women, focusing particularly on poverty and the attendant issues of powerlessness that mediate women′s migration. While gender provides the conceptual tool for mapping differential experiences of social reality, by identifying poverty and migration as significant axes around which social relations and processes unfold, the volume unravels the complex layers of needs, networks and choices that come into play in poverty-driven migration.

Book Description
"The volume is a most original and pioneering application of the synthesis of theories derived from the contributions of past and present economists to an empirical study of inflation in Sri Lanka. It is a compelling case study of how drawing on the elements of past and present writings may be made into illuminating theoretical narratives to apply to historical episodes in individual societies. The volume shows the value of how understanding past theories in their original contexts may be used with or without modification to make sense of happenings in our times." -- GC Harcourt, Emeritus Reader in The History of Economic Theory, Cambridge, 1998; Emeritus Fellow, Jesus College, 1998; Professor Emeritus, Adelaide, 1988; Visiting Professorial Fellow, UNSW Australia, 2010-2016; Honorary Professor, UNSW Australia, 2016-2022 The book provides a new conceptualisation of inflation in underdeveloped economies, through Sri Lanka's historical experience.
