Much of this habitat is being modified by watershed management techniques; and, though primary con sumers are known to be influenced by vegetation manipulation, there is limited knowledge of how these effects are manifested through food chains or food webs to the predators, especially in forest habitats. Across the continental United States, one can identify 20 distinct forest cover types. Most of these are to be found on federal lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.
