Book Description
The prevalence of heart failure is increasing, in part due to the aging population and longer survival of patients with heart disease. As heart failure management has progressed, so has the understanding of the role of arrhythmias in heart failure, and of the impact of therapies to treat them. For many clinical scenarios, a rational arrhythmia management strategy has emerged. Equally important to these strategies is the growing recognition of certain treatments that, although seemingly effective at one point in time, are now recognized as having greater potential for harm. This monograph provides the clinician with current fundamentals of arrhythmias in heart failure as they relate to a variety of clinical scenarios. Although a simple strategy for decision making cannot always be derived, clinicians will find the information useful for assessing and managing arrhythmias and arrhythmia risk in their patients with heart failure.

Book Description
The go-to handbook for those performing and analysing cardiac stress tests The stress test is key to the clinical evaluation and management of patients with known or potential cardiovascular disease. By measuring the heart's ability to respond to external stress, it can provide vital insights into the general physical condition of patients, highlighting abnormalities in blood flow, risk of coronary artery disease, and more. The Pocket Guide to Stress Testing gives cardiology professionals a complete breakdown of this everyday procedure that they can carry with them and consult on the go. This second edition has been fully revised to reflect the most up-to-date information available on the best approaches to conducting and interpreting various forms of stress test. With chapters spanning topics such as testing guidelines, nuclear imaging techniques, and emergency and aftercare protocols, the clear and practical contents cover all aspects of the subject. This essential new text includes: A complete overview of exercise stress testing, covering indications, protocols, preparation, and interpretation Guidelines for the standard treadmill test, as well as for the various pharmacological stress tests for patients unable to complete an exercise ECG test An extensive list of references and reading suggestions to help trainees to expand their knowledge End-of-chapter summaries and new tables and illustrations As the field of cardiology continues to change and develop apace, this new edition of The Pocket Guide to Stress Testing provides physicians, trainee cardiologists, and cardiac nurses with a reliable, up-to-date resource for use in everyday practice.

Book Description
Non-thermal irreversible electroporation is a new minimally invasive surgical p- cedure with unique molecular selectivity attributes – in fact it may be considered the first clinical molecular surgery procedure. Non-thermal irreversible electro- ration is a molecular selective mode of cell ablation that employs brief electrical fields to produce nanoscale defects in the cell membrane, which can lead to cell death, without an effect on any of the other tissue molecules. The electrical fields can be produced through contact by insertion of electrode needles around the undesirable tissue and non-invasively by electromagnetic induction. This new - dition to the medical armamentarium requires the active involvement and is of interest to clinical physicians, medical researchers, mechanical engineers, che- cal engineers, electrical engineers, instrumentation designers, medical companies and many other fields and disciplines that were never exposed in their training to irreversible electroporation or to a similar concept. This edited book is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to the field of irreversible electroporation to those that were not exposed or trained in the field before and can also serve as a reference manual. Irreversible electroporation is broad and interdisciplinary. Therefore, we have made an attempt to cover every one of the various aspects of the field from an introductory basic level to state of the art.

Book Description
This book is useful for physicians taking care of patients with cardiac arrhythmias and includes six chapters written by experts in their field. Chapter 1 discusses basic mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias. Chapter 2 discusses the chronobiological aspects of the impact of apnoic episodes on ventricular arrhythmias. Chapter 3 discusses navigation, detection, and tracking during cardiac ablation interventions. Chapter 4 discusses epidemiology and pathophysiology of ventricular arrhythmias in several noncardiac diseases, methods used to assess arrhythmia risk, and their association with long-term outcomes. Chapter 5 discusses the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias including indications for implantation of an AICD for primary and for secondary prevention in patients with and without congestive heart failure. Chapter 6 discusses surgical management of atrial fibrillation.
