Book Description
Excerpt from Canadian Machinery and Manufacturing News, Vol. 25: February 24, 1921 At Fig. 1 is shown an axle housing that is used on a tractor. The portions machined in the turret lathe are marked in heavy lines on the sketch. Owing to the irregular shape of this piece, a spe cial fixture, or chuck bonnet as it is often termed, is employed in the second opera tion for holding the work. 'the housing is made of cast iron, and the work about to be described was performed on a 24 inch machine. At Fig. 2 is shown a diagram of the tooling equipment used on the first opera tion. This work consists of machining the front end of the housing, also boring and reaming the hole. The operations are completed as follows: The housing is held in a special fixture which has an arm that encloses the work, and steadies it near its outer end. This arrangement can be clearly noted at Fig. 2, although Fig. 3 illustrates the fixture still better. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
