Beans respond very readily to good soil and cultivation: A light, rich, well drained loam is the most desirable. The use of manure is advisable but should be _used sparingly as it might make the plant run too much to vine. There is no plant more sensitive to cold and wet than the bean. We therefore advise not to plant until the ground has become dry and warm.. The largest returns will result in planting in drills from 2 to 3 feet apart; Cover the seed one and one-half inches deep and thin the young plants 3 to'6 inches apart in the row.
