Book Description
For thirty-some years, Lyle has made a life for his family working as an accountant. But when he retires, his Irish-born wife, Mary, wants to leave America and go home -- where the ocean is near and the butter has flavor. Somewhat grudgingly, Lyle agrees, but during their years in Galway, they discover that the surprises of life are not over. Going home is more complicated than butter and the bay, and thirty content years does not mean that a couple is immune to romantic intrigue. In this new life, while Mary and Lyle are rediscovering each other and building a richer life together, an unexpected event forces Lyle to decide where his home truly is. Told in "quiet stories with emotions like old stepping-stones that have sunk beneath the surface" (Christian Science Monitor), Beth Lordan's evocative and heartfelt novel explores the complex emotional terrain of mature marital relationships.

Book Description
All Things Flow is the third and final book of The Sandpoint Trilogy set in northern Idaho; it is the continuing story of the principal characters from Apology to Grouse Creek and Ten Percent Marriage plus a sprinkling of new ones. Two middle aged new-comers have arrived to live beside Grouse Creek for different reasons: Rhododendron to enjoy a late-life relationship with Mother Nature; and Elliot to build a house in the wilderness and then write a book about it for profit. Rhododendron soon discovers that she is confronted by a long suppressed grievance against her husband a grievance for which she ultimately sees no remedy except to move on with her life. Nathaniel is again drawn into the adversity that afflicts the world beyond his mountain home when a US Marshal appears at his log house with instructions for him and Esmeralda to pack-up and leave. The result of the marshal's visit is the jailing of Esmeralda and Chico, and the gun-shot wounding of Nathaniel as he escapes into the woods. Nathaniel's cousin Barry becomes despondent over the untimely death of his wife, a death that has left him with a precocious seven-year-old daughter to parent. One afternoon in a smoke filled blackcap patch, Barry and Rhododendron discover that each has a desperate hunger for the other and that neither is inclined to deny his appetites. Victoria receives a telephone message from a man who introduces himself as Dennis and tells her that he believes that the two of them could combine their efforts toward a mutual goal; that he has in mind two things: expanding the territory served by The Gallery from the upper five counties of the Idaho Panhandle to the whole wide world; and expanding The Gallery's product line to include all artistic endeavor. Dennis also mentions that Victoria is to consider the inordinate amount of money required for this venture to be no object she is to leave the money to him. Thus begins to flow a rapid stream of events: Nathaniel goes to Emily at Arrowhead Point to recuperate from his gun-shot wound and to plan his return to The Old Growth to defend his home. Emily takes advantage of Nathaniel's convalescence to paint his portrait. Barry resigns from the US Forest Service as the result of political chicanery and moves to Washington, DC, to work as the understudy for the senior senator from Idaho. Rhododendron divorces Elliot and moves to Spokane, Washington, to work for The Sierra Club and to be near Barry. Victoria accepts Barry's seven-year-old daughter as her change. Dennis and his life-long lover, Doris, inform Victoria that they want her to become the modern day Lorenzo de' Medici for the entire planet. Victoria is stunned by the radical changes looming before her should she accept Doris and Dennis's financial donation; but she cannot imagine not accepting the opportunity that is hers for the taking. By the end of the tale, readers have become aware of what Lucretius, the Roman poet and philosopher, had written centuries before: that no single thing abides but all things flow.

Book Description
There are many books about war. There are books that describe the bravery and glories of war. Other books portray the warrior as an "anti-hero". The Pipes Were Calling: A Vietnam War Story is not either of these formula tales. The Pipes Were Calling tells the story of a boy, 18 year old and fresh from high school who is drafted and then sent to fight in Vietnam. He has no combat experience or Hollywood scriptwriters. To survive, he must quickly learn the rules of war. Danny Murphy learns these rules, experiences combat, endures the deaths of friends, and engages in the black humor of crises. We share his experiences as he goes from "newbie" to veteran, then finally to civilian. Danny's story is told with honesty and humor, hopefully leaving us with a clearer understanding of war.

Book Description
Hey! I’m John Sullivan, a recent high school graduate who collected his thoughts and dreams and hopes and fears and all kinds of other stuff in a year-long diary through his senior year. When I finished on graduation day, I realized I had quite a collection, as a matter of fact, I had more than 400 pages! So I thought about it and realized that it had a beginning, a middle, and an end, so therefore it told a complete story, which I think might be a book if I remember my sophomore literature class correctly. I am NOT saying it is literature (ha-ha), but I do think it is a book. That is where you come in. I don’t think it is much of a book if I’m the only one who reads it. It is just a diary then, that will remain on the floppy disk in my computer desk in my bedroom. Instead, you could read it. And tell me what you think. And then I will know if I should have left it in that computer desk. Or not. If you do read it, you’ll find that I didn’t leave anything out, even the stuff that might embarrass me. I could even still get into some trouble about some of it, but I think I’m ok because I don’t think my parents will want to read it because they were there for almost all of it, so it would be a rerun for them. I don’t think reruns are bad, but they already lived through this once, so they probably don’t want to get all upset allover again. So, go ahead and click away. It was an adventure for me – come on along for the ride! John Sullivan is right. This is quite an undertaking for a senior in high school. But that is what it is – a diary, a coming of age novel, a satire, and, incredibly, a love story. It is a unique look at one of the most important developmental periods in a person’s life.

Book Description
1635: Murder and Music. Music . . . It's been said that musicians live for the next new sound._ Well, the musicians of Europe were presented with the biggest new sound ever when the Ring of Fire brought the future back to 1631._ What will the court musicians think when they hear Bach, Stravinsky, and the Beatles?_ What will the street and tavern musicians think when faced with Johnny Cash, Metallica, and Nirvana? _Things don't go smoothly for Marla Linder and her friends. And Murder . . . The Thirty Years War was an 'interesting' time to be alive, in the proverbial Chinese curse sense of the word._ Then Grantville arrived from the future, bringing technology and philosophies that set European civilization on its ear._ But that's not all that came back with Grantville._ Imagine trying to establish modern police procedures in a time where neither the powers-that-be nor the people underneath them provide much support._ Up-timer Byron Chieske and his down-timer partner Gotthilf Hoch walk some mean streets and lonely roads.
