Book Description
This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO Standard 6626. Differences, where they exist, are shown in the appendix with associated rationale. This document specifies the essential dimensions of piston ring types DSF-C, DSF-CNP, SSF, GSF, DSF, DSF-NG, and SSF-L coil spring loaded oil control rings. For the cast iron part the recommended material is class 10 according to SAE J1590. For special applications material classes 20 to 50 may be used. Variation in face design and spring groove from these may be used, as recommended by individual manufacturers, in plain or chromed versions. The tangential forces of coil spring loaded oil control rings can be varied over a wide range. Explanations and recommendations are given in Section 6. The normal range for axial width of coil spring loaded oil control rings (3 to 8 mm inclusive) is divided into 0.5 or 1.0 mm steps. In Tables 9 to 14 dimensions are given for coil spring loaded oil control rings within an axial width of 4.75 mm (i.e., 3/16 in) for existing applications in inch units. This document applies to coil spring loaded oil control rings up to 200 mm inclusive for reciprocating internal combustion engines. It may also be used for piston rings of compressors working under similar conditions.SAE J2003 is being discontinued because the content of this standard is also contained in ISO 6626. Therefore, to eliminate duplication and confusion in coordinating the standards between ISO and SAE, this document will be discontinued. The SAE Piston and Ring Standards committee will now continue to support ISO in updating the standards as appropriate.

Book Description
This SAE Standard specifies the general characteristics of piston rings and individual dimensional criteria, which are specified as appropriate in the documents in Section 2. This document also provides a system for coding, designation, and marking of piston rings. This document applies to the manufacture of piston rings up to and including 200 mm diameter for reciprocating internal combustion engines. It also applies to piston rings for compressors working under similar conditions.SAE J1591 is being discontinued because the content of this standard is also contained in ISO 6621-4. Therefore, to eliminate duplication and confusion in coordinating the standards between ISO and SAE, this document will be discontinued. The SAE Piston and Ring Standards committee will now continue to support ISO in updating the standards as appropriate.

Book Description
This SAE Standard specifies the essential dimensional featuresof R, B, and M rectangular piston ring types with narrow ringwidth.Dimensional tables 8 and 9 allow for the use of cast iron (table8) or steel (table 9). Since the modulus of elasticity of steelrings is higher than that of cast iron rings, the fluctuation inthe surface pressure will become greater if the free gap is set asthe reference for force. Therefore, forces are set using thesurface pressure as the reference, in order to minimize the effectof the fluctuation. The requirements of this document apply to rectangular rings forreciprocating internal combustion engines up to and including 90 mmdiameter for cast iron rings and up to and including 100 mmdiameter for steel. They may also be used for piston rings ofcompressors working under similar conditions.SAE J1998 is being discontinued because the content of this standard is also contained in ISO 6622-2. Therefore, to eliminate duplication and confusion in coordinating the standards between ISO and SAE, this document will be discontinued. The SAE Piston and Ring Standards committee will now continue to support ISO in updating the standards as appropriate.

Book Description
This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO Standard 6625. Differences, where they exist, are shown in Appendix A. This SAE Standard specifies the dimensional features of S, G, D, and DV oil control piston ring types. The normal range for the axial width of oil control rings (2.5 to 8 m inclusive) is divided into 0.5 or 1.0 increments. In Table 7, dimensions in inch units are given for oil control rings with axial width 4.75 m (equal to 3/16 in) for existing applications. The requirements of this document apply to oil control rings for reciprocating internal combustion piston engines up to and including 200 mm in diameter. They may also be used for piston rings of compressors working under similar conditions.

Book Description
This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO Standard 6624/2 TR. Differences, where they exist, are shown in Appendix A. This SAE Standard specifies the essential dimensional features of HK- and HKB- half keystone rings with narrow ring width types. Dimensional and allow for the use of cast iron (Table 6) or steel (Table 7). Since the modulus of elasticity of steel rings is higher than that of cast iron rings, the fluctuation in the surface pressure will become greater if the free gap is set as the reference for forces. Therefore, forces are set using the surface pressure as the reference in order to minimize the effect of the fluctuation. The requirements of this document apply to half keystone rings of reciprocating internal combustion engines up to and including 70 mm diameter for cast iron rings and up to and including 100 mm diameter for steel rings.SAE J2001 is being discontinued because the content of this standard is also contained in ISO 6624-2. Therefore, to eliminate duplication and confusion in coordinating the standards between ISO and SAE, this document will be discontinued. The SAE Piston and Ring Standards committee will now continue to support ISO in updating the standards as appropriate.

Book Description
This SAE Standard specifies the quality aspects that are capable of definition but not normally found on a drawing specification. The difficulty of trying to define in absolute terms the quality attainable in normal commercial manufacture of piston rings is well known. In this document the commonly encountered aspects of quality in terms of casting defects and other departures from ideal are quantified. Many minor defects are clearly quite acceptable; other defects because of size or numbers are inadmissible. This document covers the following: a) Single piece piston rings of grey, carbidic, malleable, spheroidal graphite cast iron or steel; b) Multipiece pistong rings (oil control rings) consisting of cast iron parts and spring components; c) Single piece and multipiece rings of steel, i.e., oil control rings in the form of strip steel components or steel segments (rails) with spring expander components. In addition to specifying certain limits fo acceptance relating to inspection measuring principles (covered by SAE J1589) this document also covers those features for which no recognized quantitative measurement procedures exist and which are only checked visually with normal eyesight and without magnification. Such features (superficial defects) are additional to the standard tolerances of ring width, radial wall thickness, and closed gap. The requirements of this document apply to all rings up to and including 200 mm diameter covered by the above classification for both reciprocating internal combustion engines and compressors.SAE J1996 is being discontinued because the content of this standard is also contained in ISO 6621-5. Therefore, to eliminate duplication and confusion in coordinating the standards between ISO and SAE, this document will be discontinued. The SAE Piston and Ring Standards committee will now continue to support ISO in updating the standards as appropriate.
