Book Description
The Cercospora or Cercospora-like diseases of cassava have historically been considered economically unimportant, although there were no experimental results to substatiate this view. This widely held but unsubstantiated view has hindered any serious work on these diseases. Therefore, to guide any future work on these diseases it is first necessary to establish their economic importance. The symptomatological, morhological and cultural characteristics which can be used to identify the four species inciting these diseases in cassava are presented, followed by the studies to elucidate the epidemiology and importance of brown leaf spot and Cercospora leaf blight. This study was conducted in twoinportant cassava-growing regions of Colombia, South America. The results indicate that brown leaf spot and Cercospora leaf blight are typically compound interest diseases with a long lag stage and a comparatively short logarithmic stage.

Fungal Diseases And Their Management In Horticultural Crops
Author: P.P. Reddy
Publisher: Scientific Publishers
ISBN: 938634761X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 373
Book Description
Horticulture in India is fast emerging as a major commercial venture, because of higher remuneration per unit area and the realization that consumption of fruits and vegetables is essential for health and nutrition. In the last one decade, export potential of horticultural crops has also significantly increased attracting even multinationals into floriculture, processing and value added products. Productivity of horticultural crops in India is relatively low as compared to other countries. Of the several factors responsible for lower productivity of horticultural crops, fungal diseases are considered as important limiting factors. Diseases of horticultural crops continue to cause losses of about 10% of the crop yields worth more than Rs. 15,000 crores annually. More than 9,600 MT of technical grade fungicides are used annually to manage the diseases in India. The information on fungal diseases of horticultural crops is very much scattered. There is no such book at present which comprehensively and exclusively deals with the above aspects on horticultural crops. The present book deals with geographical distribution, symptoms, host range, life cycle, spread, survival and management of fungal diseases in horticultural crops in detail using regulatory, physical, cultural, chemical, biological, host plant resistance and integrated methods. The book is extensively illustrated with excellent quality photographs enhancing the quality of publication. This book is a practical guide to practicing farmers, useful reference to policy makers, research and extension workers and teachers for teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students.

Fungicides in Crop Protection, 2nd Edition
Author: Richard P. Oliver
Publisher: CABI
ISBN: 1780641664
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 201
Book Description
Plant pathogenic fungi cause devastating damage to crop production worldwide. The growing global population necessitates reduced crop losses to improve food security, and the control of fungal plant pathogens is vital to help maintain food production. Providing a concise and balanced review of fungicides used in crop protection, this book describes the science of fungicide use, selection and resistance within the context of farming situations. Major updates and additions reflecting the emergence of two new classes of fungicides (strobilurins and SDHI) and the increased incidence of fungicide resistance are included in this new edition, which also discusses legislative requirements to reduce fungicide applications, and current trends in fungicide use.
