Boreas Rss-17 Xylem Flux Density Measurements at the Ssa-Obs Site
Author: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781721226054
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 40
Book Description
As part of its efforts to determine environmental and phenological states from radar imagery, the Boreal Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study (BOREAS) Remote Sensing Science (RSS)-17 team collected in situ tree xylem flow measurements for one growing season on five Picea mariana (black spruce) trees. The data were collected to obtain information on the temporal and spatial variability in water uptake by trees in the Southern Study Area-Old Black Spruce (SSA-OBS) stand in the BOREAS SSA. Temporally, the data were collected in 30-minute intervals for 120 days from 31 May 1994 until 27 September 1994. The data are stored in tabular ASCII files. The xylem flux data are available from the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC). The data files are available on a CD-ROM (see document number 20010000884). Zimmerman, Reiner and Way, JoBea and McDonald, Kyle and Nickeson, Jaime (Editor) and Hall, Forrest G. (Editor) and Smith, David E. (Technical Monitor) Goddard Space Flight Center; Jet Propulsion Laboratory NASA/TM-2000-209891/VOL72, Rept-2000-03136-0/VOL72, NAS 1.15:209891/VOL72

Author: M. Borghetti
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521442190
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 328
Book Description
The prospect of future climate change has stimulated research into the physiological responses of plants to stress. Water is a key factor controlling the distribution and abundance of plants. This book brings together contributions from a range of experts who have worked on the cavitation of water in the transport system.

Plant Cell Biology
Author: Brian E. S. Gunning
Publisher: Jones & Bartlett Learning
ISBN: 9780867205046
Category : Plant cells and tissues
Languages : en
Pages : 154
Book Description
Tremendous advances have been made in techniques and application of microscopy since the authors' original publication of Plant Cell Biology, An Ultrastructural Approach in 1975. With this revision, the authors have added over 200 images exploiting modern techniques such as cryo-microscopy, immuno-gold localisations, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, and in situ hybridisation. Additionally, there is a concise, readable outline of these techniques. With these advances in microscopy and parallel advances in molecular biology, more and more exciting new information on structure-function relationships in plant cells has become available. This revision presents new images and provides a modern view of plan cell biology in a completely rewritten text that emphasizes underlying principles. It introduces broad concepts and uses carefully selected representative micrographs to illustrate fundamental information on structures and processes. Both students and researchers will find this a valuable resource for exploring plant cell and molecular biology.

Yvain
Author: Chretien de Troyes
Publisher: Yale University Press
ISBN: 0300187580
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 242
Book Description
The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.
