Book Description
Baseball diamonds are a girl’s best friend. A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME is the story of a 20-something woman who finds comfort and solace in baseball as her carefully ordered world starts to unravel. 26-year-old Laurie Nicholson thinks she’s beginning to sort things out when it comes to life, work, and love. When a sudden declaration from an on-again, off-again boyfriend inspires her to take a risk, only to meet with crushing heartbreak instead, Laurie finds herself searching for refuge. A chance encounter with Eric Morris and Peter Ellis, two friends spending their summer visiting every ballpark in America, offers Laurie an unexpected way to salve her wounds. Despite growing up in Boston surrounded by Red Sox fans, she wasn’t a fan of the game–until Eric and Peter’s enthusiasm turn that around and she falls in love…with baseball. Life throws Laurie a curveball when she gets laid off from her career-path ad agency job, and then again when her former suitor tries to reclaim her attention. Joining up with Eric and Peter for the remainder of their cross-country baseball odyssey lets her dodge her ex’s efforts as well as look for a new job. Along the way, Laurie and friends encounter Citizens Bank Park and the Philly Phanatic; Fenway Park, the front row of the Green Monster and Wally the Green Monster; the Pirate Parrot and PNC Park; Southpaw and US Cellular Field; the grandstand and bleachers at Wrigley Field; Jacobs Field and that creepy Cleveland Indians mascot; Busch Stadium and Fredbird; Sluggerrr and Kaufmann Stadium; Shea Stadium and the 2006 post-season. But as the season and the journey draws to a close, Laurie realizes that there’s a new set of decisions she’ll need to make: where she’ll live, who she’s in love with, and what team she’s going to claim allegiance to! If you love baseball and best friends, rock and roll and road trips, heartbreak and happy endings, A Whole New Ballgame is for you.

Book Description
Derrick Shimmons is the manager of security at Christ Memorial Hospital. He is a former Marine that spent time in Afghanistan. His confidence has taken a huge hit from his time in the Marines due to people making fun of him and things happening against him. He turned his experience in the military into a career in security once he got out. Now he is in charge of many people and an entire department. If he can keep doing everything right. Terrorists target the hospital for revenge against Americans for leaving Shiite Muslims to fend for themselves after Operation Desert Storm. The main villain has been in the country for decades and has worked to become a doctor. He keeps himself hidden and has been seething the entire time. When the attack he has been planning for decades begins, he stays idle among the hostages for hours and comes out only when things start going bad. Derrick must first navigate his own mistakes and problems, then protect the people of the hospital during the attack. He puts together a small group of people including security personnel and hospital visitors. He relies on a female active duty infantry leader who has jumped hurdles to get where she is today. She has come home to visit her mother in the hospital. Most characters in the novel are around long enough for the audience to get invested in, and then they are killed off throughout the book. Derrick has to lead a delaying fight toward the roof to evacuate people to keep them safe and grow as a person. All this leads to a climactic ending on the roof between the two leaders. The ending of the book leaves the reader wanting more, and then Derrick and Meghan secretly take the leader of the terrorists to the CIA for answers, leaving the opening for another book.

Book Description
Message Control_a look at what shapes the news from the presidential campaign trail_comes out of the author's experience traveling with campaigns, interviews with other journalists who have covered campaigns from the road, and research on campaign news. Elizabeth Skewes, a journalism professor and former reporter, investigates journalists' beliefs and the role those beliefs play in the election process, as well as how the routines of campaign reporting affect news coverage. While Skewes does find that journalists make an effort to inform the voting decisions of their readers by giving them a sense of context for each campaign and each candidate's character, she also shows that journalists remain wary of staff manipulation and are constrained by pack journalism, press pools, and life 'in the bubble.' From on-the-trail perspectives to media theory explanations, Message Control begins to answer the question of why political coverage focuses on personalities and peccadilloes when studies show the public wants less of this and more discussion of political issues.

Book Description
The following is a collection of articles which I wrote for the village monthly newspaper The Medstead Times over a twenty year period. 'Redcote' is the name of our house and 'up' is what goes on there. A series similar to this article is running in one of the national weekly newspapers, I believe - but there the similarity ends.
