In History of Blacks in America from Pre-History to 1877, I discuss the real history of Blacks in America. It explains that the contemporary Black population in the United States is made up of three Black Nationalities: Black Europeans, Black Native Americans and Black Africans from Sub-Saharan Africa. A History of Blacks in America from Pre-History to 1877 is meant to be used as a textbook or a stand alone history text. The book is divided into two parts. In this revision of the 2014 edition, Part One has been expanded to provide a detailed discussion of Afro-American history beginning with the Paleoamerican and Pre-Columbian periods up to the 1960's. Part Two provides two short essays on the Black Europeans and American Mound builders, along with short informational text teachers can use to teach the history of the Black Americans of European descent, Black Americans of African descent and Black Americans of Native American descent so the reader can have a full knowledge of the history of Blacks in America.

Book Description
Freedom Beyond Confinement examines the cultural history of African American travel and the lasting influence of travel on the imagination particularly of writers of literary fiction and nonfiction. Using the paradox of freedom and confinement to frame the ways travel represented both opportunity and restriction for African Americans, the book details the intimate connection between travel and imagination from post Reconstruction (ca. 1877) to the present. Analysing a range of sources from the black press and periodicals to literary fiction and nonfiction, the book charts the development of critical representation of travel from the foundational press and periodicals which offered African Americans crucial information on travel precautions and possibilities (notably during the era of Jim Crow) to the woefully understudied literary fiction that would later provide some of the most compelling and lasting portrayals of the freedoms and constraints African Americans associated with travel. Travel experiences (often challenging and vexed) provided the raw data with which writers produced images and ideas meaningful as they learned to navigate, negotiate and even challenge racialized and gendered impediments to their mobility. In their writings African Americans worked to realize a vision and state of freedom informed by those often difficult experiences of mobility. In telling this story, the book hopes to center literary fiction in studies of travel where fiction has largely remained absent.

Book Description
"African Americans: A Concise History" is designed for one-semester survey courses of African-American history or for instructors who would like a concise narrative that can be supplemented with outside readings. African Americans draws on recent research to present black history in a clear and direct manner and within the broader social, cultural, and political framework of American history. It provides thorough coverage of African-American women as active builders of black culture and extensive treatment of African-American art, literature, and music. Balancing accounts of the actions of African-American leaders with investigations of the lives of ordinary men and women, a community focus helps makes this a history of people rather than an account of a few extraordinary individuals. "African Americans: A Concise History" tells a compelling story of survival, struggle, and triumph over adversity. It will leave students with an appreciation of the central place of black people and black culture in this country and a better understanding of both African-American and American history.
