Book Description
Ditch the guidebooks, defy the GPS, ditch the crowds... the Black Forest whispers its secrets to those who dare to wander off the beaten path. This isn't your mama's travel guide. It's a compass for the curious, a map for the adventurous, a love letter to the wild heart of the Black Forest. Forget picture-perfect postcards and tourist traps, we're talking hidden waterfalls guarded by moss-bearded trees, forgotten trails kissed by the morning mist, and star-studded nights where campfire tales weave magic under the inky sky. Dive into emerald valleys where sunlight paints diamonds on rushing rivers, and climb sun-dappled slopes where eagles soar above breathtaking panoramas. Ditch the map, follow the whispers of the wind, and stumble upon charming villages where time seems to have stopped. Feast on melt-in-your-mouth Käsespätzle, chase waterfalls with laughter echoing in your wake, and learn the secrets of generations-old crafts passed down under smoky roofs. But the Black Forest's true magic lies beyond the familiar. This guide whispers the secrets of forgotten paths, leads you past the last tourist sign, and throws open the doors to hidden experiences. Kayak down misty rivers where deer stare in wonder, camp beneath skies so starry it hurts, and wake to the sunrise painting the peaks in fiery hues. This isn't just a guide, it's a dare. A dare to leave the well-trodden behind, to chase the whispers of the forest, and to discover the wild soul that beats within this enchanting realm. So pack your boots, your thirst for adventure, and your willingness to get lost. The Black Forest awaits, its secrets waiting to be unveiled by those who dare to listen. Ready to answer the call of the wild? This isn't just an adventure guide, it's the compass to your soul.

Book Description
Here is a welcome new addition to this acclaimed travel guide series: "Pocket Adventures Germany" is a lightweight volume with heavyweight information designed to be used on the go. Packed with all the practical travel information you could ever need, from places to stay and eat, tourist information resources, destination specific travel advice, emergency information, plus sections on history and geography that provide readers with the background knowledge essential to a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The author's passion for the destination comes across in the lively and detailed text, which is packed with the very best and most up-to-date information. This is a must have volume for anyone really wanting to make the most of their German holiday. Color photos throughout. The author is a resident of Munich so he knows his subject well. "Of the three Germany guidebooks I used, this one was the most useful and not only because it covers so many places that the others simply ignored. Although you never get 10% off for showing this book, it has enough sensible advice on how to shave unnecessary expenses off the budget without ever feeling or acting like a cheapskate. I enjoyed the author's explanation of Germany's complex history but others may like the "History Cheat Sheet" that reduces six pages of history to a half page summary. Although the author has the ability to focus on the essentials, he (she?) drops enough fascinating tidbits to keep it interesting. I also love the explanation of major trends in German culture, arts, music, and literature. The author clearly has opinions but never treats the reader like an idiot or writes down to you in any sense. As a non-German speaker I also loved the way all German terms are translated throughout the guide not expecting me to suddenly remember what is a kirch or Schloss halfway through the book. The accommodation lists are very useful especially as it focuses on the around 80-120 per night middle to upper class hotels that suit my tastes. However, even the lower priced hotels all have private bathrooms, which to me is rather essential when on vacation.--Jane S., Amazon.com Great to see a guidebook on Germany in English by an author who realizes that Germany is more than Berlin, the Rhine, and Bavaria. Not that the well-known areas are neglected but I particularly enjoyed the wide coverage on the former East German regions.--Steven, Amazon.com

The best local outfitters are listed, along with contact numbers, addresses and recommendations. A comprehensive introductory section provides background on history, geography, climate, culture, when to go, transportation and planning. The books then take a region-by-region approach, plunging into the very heart of each area and what adventures it offers, as well as a full range of accommodations, historical sites, walking tours, museums, shopping, restaurants for every budget, and festivals. Adventures throughout the state, from Great Basin National Park to Winnemucca, Ruby Mountain Wilderness to Angel Lake, from Cathedral Gorge State Park to the Las Vegas strip. Urban and rural destinations offer a good mix of activities. There's something for everyone, so take your pick! Useful tips on travel in the wilderness included. "The print edition of this book is 210 pages. It's a guide to every corner of Nevada - what to see and do, where to stay, the best places to eat, the ghost towns, the mountains, the lakes the towns and the cities - with an accent on enjoying the great outdoors. The author details the best places for hiking, mountain biking, jeeping, boating and fishing, with info on all the outfitters and guides. There are 22 state parks in the state, plus 14 national recreation areas, 14 wildlife refuges and a sliver of the newest national park, Death Valley. He covers them all - what to see and do, how to get there, how to get around. Lake Tahoe and Lake Mead are covered as well. While everybody else heads for the Strip, with its faux Sphinx, plastic volcano and campy lounge acts, you can head out to the Great Basin, with this book on your laptop, where you will have the whole wild and naturally amazing state almost to yourself." -- Amazon reviewer
