Book Description
Excerpt from Bible Links and Daily Supply I have taken great delight in taking the texts by course from Genesis through to Revelation, thus forming links to a chain reach ing through the inspired Word. A text for every day in the year. Hope it may meet with favor to Bible readers as they peruse the Sacred page. Very many methinks as they learn the verse on the morning of each day, and treasure it in their hearts, will so feed on the bread sent down from heaven that they will be nourished, and strengthened with might, and power by the Spirit in the inner man, and grow more and more in love with the Word day by day; and will evidence its effects by letting their light shine upon others creating within them the same love, thus proving that our Bible is an inspired Book. It has been said that the hiding of God's Word in our hearts from day to day, if we obey it, will keep us from sinning, and who that has tasted of the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come desires to live without the aid secured by memorizing the word day by day. I have also coupled a verse of poetry, carefully selected, with each text of Scripture, which points toward the same subject, and adding new lustre to the text. Hoping it will meet with your approbation and also of all to whom it may come. The Bible is my Chart, By it the seas I know, I cannot with it part. Book Description
New York Times Bestseller • Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize • An Oprah's Book Club Selection “Powerful . . . [Kingsolver] has with infinitely steady hands worked the prickly threads of religion, politics, race, sin and redemption into a thing of terrible beauty.” —Los Angeles Times Book Review The Poisonwood Bible, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, established Barbara Kingsolver as one of the most thoughtful and daring of modern writers. Taking its place alongside the classic works of postcolonial literature, it is a suspenseful epic of one family's tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in Africa. The story is told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it—from garden seeds to Scripture—is calamitously transformed on African soil. The novel is set against one of the most dramatic political chronicles of the twentieth century: the Congo's fight for independence from Belgium, the murder of its first elected prime minister, the CIA coup to install his replacement, and the insidious progress of a world economic order that robs the fledgling African nation of its autonomy. Against this backdrop, Orleanna Price reconstructs the story of her evangelist husband's part in the Western assault on Africa, a tale indelibly darkened by her own losses and unanswerable questions about her own culpability. Also narrating the story, by turns, are her four daughters—the teenaged Rachel; adolescent twins Leah and Adah; and Ruth May, a prescient five-year-old. These sharply observant girls, who arrive in the Congo with racial preconceptions forged in 1950s Georgia, will be marked in surprisingly different ways by their father's intractable mission, and by Africa itself. Ultimately each must strike her own separate path to salvation. Their passionately intertwined stories become a compelling exploration of moral risk and personal responsibility.

Book Description
A New York Times bestseller people can believe in—by "a pioneer of the new urban Christians" (Christianity Today) and the "C.S. Lewis for the 21st century" (Newsweek). Timothy Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics, and even ardent believers, have about religion. Using literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and potent reasoning, Keller explains how the belief in a Christian God is, in fact, a sound and rational one. To true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand their ground against the backlash to religion created by the Age of Skepticism. And to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics, he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for God.
