Book Description
Some folks said; who do you think you are to write your Autobiography? Nobody will want to read it.' These folks thought just because I am an unknown person nobody will be interested in reading about my adventures. Well, I'm of a different mind. For a lot of people it will be very interesting to read about what they could only dream about having done or doing themselves. I have cheated death on a number of occasions at sea and on land. I have put down a mutiny. The sailing ship I was Master of, was declared missing in the North Atlantic for days in a snowstorm, but I always brought my passengers and crew and ship back to a safe port. I have tried and failed and succeeded in a lot of endeavors in my life, but never alone, always with a good woman beside me, encouraging and praising me. Eventually I found not only what I loved to do, but what I became very good at and was very proud to do. To the reader I want the book to convey this one message, follow your dream and make it a reality. No matter how difficult the road ahead may seem, you will reach your goal and enjoy the rewards at the end.

Problems... Solved
Author: Charles Scott
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1450219748
Category : Humor
Languages : en
Pages : 262
Book Description
What do mothball-induced dizziness, an oddly shaped placebo, a unique use for vinegar, a paper clip, and fish that lived have in common? These are situations that consultant Charles Scott has faced in his thirty-three years of providing occupational safety and health guidance to a broad range of businesses and institutions. The author relates these unique and sometimes humorous experiences to give the reader an appreciation for the ingenuity and hard work of both workers and all levels of management involved in small business, American style. Also included are insights into struggles required to obtain his advanced degree. He lifts the curtain just a bit to reveal behind-the-scenes barriers that many graduate students encounter. He also talks about the physical maladies that have affected him as a consequence of the projects on which he worked. Most of the incidents he relates reveal how conscientious his client contacts were in their dealings. However, a few instances of ineptitude, dishonesty, and poor management are given that should reassure the reader that Mr. Scott did have to interface with all types of personalities. The reader will also develop an appreciation of how challenging it can be for a consultant to avoid the "feast or famine" trap.

Tom Bedlam
Author: George Hagen
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 0307548163
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 464
Book Description
Born in a shabby tenement in Victorian London, young Tom Bedlam is employed stoking the furnaces in a massive porcelain factory; he is son to a father he has never met, and sibling to a baby who vanished at birth. But in spite of these disadvantages, he is a positive spirit, cunning in his pursuit of love, unflinchingly loyal to his friends, and possessed of a deep, passionate soul. More than anything, he wishes to bring the loose strands of his estranged family together. After Tom’s mother dies, a mysterious family benefactor appears who offers to pay for the boy’s education. For a factory urchin this is good luck indeed, and Tom is whisked away to an exclusive private boarding school called Hammer Hall. The school is a crucible of variously privileged, predatory, meek, and noble boys, and although Tom gathers crucial clues there about his lost brother, he finds himself caught between warring forces and makes a Faustian pact that will haunt his adult life. As Tom becomes a man, his quest assumes grander proportions, a search for his lost innocence but an attempt to create the family he dreamed of in childhood. His experiences will challenge his decency and force him to weigh his character against the pitfalls of loyalty, patriotism, love, and familial duty. Tom Bedlam shows how small deeds in childhood can resonate for a lifetime, and how the bonds of family ultimately prevail against the devastating march of progress and human folly. Most of all, it is a journey with a good friend. Charming, whimsical, passionate, and funny–there’s no better companion than Tom Bedlam.
