Book Description
During the global pandemic, Sheree Fitch shared what she calls "moments"--her first-burst warm-up writing exercises, on social media almost every day. Sometimes funny verse, other times lyrical prose or poetry, these daily missives were one way to negotiate the strange, unpredictable times. On April 20, immediately upon waking, as the full story of the tragedy in Portapique, Nova Scotia, was unfolding, Fitch thought of all affected, the painful day ahead, of what parents would say to their children. She thought about grieving when apart. These words moved through her immediately that day. Fitch shared "Because We Love, We Cry" on social media and it was embraced by Nova Scotians and those who love them across the country. It was read aloud in Canadian Parliament and during a provincial news conference about COVID-19, and by Fitch herself during a nationally broadcast vigil held for the twenty-two victims of the Portapique tragedy. After many requests, Nimbus and Sheree have come together to make the poem available in book form. Featuring colour line drawings and the full poem on heavy cardstock for safekeeping, as well as a pull-out postcard to send to loved ones near and far, Because We Love is a mantra, a prayer, a lament, a talisman, a paper rosary, a beating heart to keep close to your own. A portion of the book's proceeds will be donated annually to the Red Cross Stronger Together Nova Scotia Fund, which offers "support to the individuals, families and communities impacted by the Nova Scotia tragedy with immediate and long-term needs."

Category : Juvenile Fiction

Book Description
This thoughtful, poetic book uses metaphors and beautiful imagery to explore the reasons for our tears. In a soft voice, Mario asks, “Mother, why do we cry?” And his mother begins to tell him about the many reasons for our tears. We cry because our sadness is so huge it must escape from our bodies. We cry because we don’t understand the world, and our tears go in search of an answer. Most important, she tells him, we cry because we feel like crying. And, as she shows him then, sometimes we feel like crying for joy. This warm, reassuring hug of a book makes clear that everyone is allowed to cry, and that everyone does.

Because I Love You
Author: Judy Herzog-Chmielarz
Publisher: Dog Ear Publishing
ISBN: 1608441385
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 86
Book Description
You have only one guarantee in life: your body will die. Because I Love You offers a gentle, spiritual approach to help you prepare for the inevitable, the death of the physical body. Knowing that your soul is infinite-rather than thinking of death as the end of everything-opens the door to a new consciousness. This new way of thinking about the concept of your soul's continuation will enable you to preplan your own arrangements, so that your desires and wishes can be fulfilled. Making preparations for your death in advance can also protect your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions at a time when they are raw with grief. So have it your way-make your arrangements and spare your loved ones, because you love them. Because I Love You presents a different approach to what is often very difficult to discuss, let alone accomplish: preplanning your own arrangements. Yet taking this approach can prevent sibling rivalry, estranged relations, disputes, and legal actions that can be associated with a loved one's passing. This book, in a loving and sometimes tastefully humorous way, constantly reminds you to expand your thinking, to understand that you are so much more than your physical body. The author offers simple meditation techniques that will make it easier for you to complete a brief, fill-in-the-blanks workbook to get you started on making those arrangements. Once you have made them, you will be rewarded by the feelings of relief and satisfaction that come from accomplishing a difficult task. And then, knowing your plans are in place and your loved ones are protected, you can get on with the joy of living your life. Judy Herzog-Chmielarz is passionate about helping people. Her desire to know and understand herself led her to participate in various self-discovery programs; then, given her nature and personality, they also became her means to help others. In 1988, she received certification as a Regression Therapist from the Arthur Ford Academy/Delphi University. In 2002, she attended the Grief Recovery Outreach Institute, and consequently became a Grief Educator. Judy has been a syndicated columnist for several local newspapers, has appeared as a guest on NBC South Florida Today Show, and occasionally co-hosts radio shows in the South Florida area.

Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 257
Book Description
A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. Option B
Author: Sheryl Sandberg
Publisher: Knopf
ISBN: 1524732699
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • From authors of Lean In and Originals: a powerful, inspiring, and practical book about building resilience and moving forward after life’s inevitable setbacks After the sudden death of her husband, Sheryl Sandberg felt certain that she and her children would never feel pure joy again. “I was in ‘the void,’” she writes, “a vast emptiness that fills your heart and lungs and restricts your ability to think or even breathe.” Her friend Adam Grant, a psychologist at Wharton, told her there are concrete steps people can take to recover and rebound from life-shattering experiences. We are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. It is a muscle that everyone can build. Option B combines Sheryl’s personal insights with Adam’s eye-opening research on finding strength in the face of adversity. Beginning with the gut-wrenching moment when she finds her husband, Dave Goldberg, collapsed on a gym floor, Sheryl opens up her heart—and her journal—to describe the acute grief and isolation she felt in the wake of his death. But Option B goes beyond Sheryl’s loss to explore how a broad range of people have overcome hardships including illness, job loss, sexual assault, natural disasters, and the violence of war. Their stories reveal the capacity of the human spirit to persevere . . . and to rediscover joy. Resilience comes from deep within us and from support outside us. Even after the most devastating events, it is possible to grow by finding deeper meaning and gaining greater appreciation in our lives. Option B illuminates how to help others in crisis, develop compassion for ourselves, raise strong children, and create resilient families, communities, and workplaces. Many of these lessons can be applied to everyday struggles, allowing us to brave whatever lies ahead. Two weeks after losing her husband, Sheryl was preparing for a father-child activity. “I want Dave,” she cried. Her friend replied, “Option A is not available,” and then promised to help her make the most of Option B. We all live some form of Option B. This book will help us all make the most of it.

The Smell of Rain on Dust
Author: Martín Prechtel
Publisher: North Atlantic Books
ISBN: 1583949402
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 185
Book Description
"Beautifully written and wise … [Martin Prechtel] offers stories that are precious and life-sustaining. Read carefully, and listen deeply."—Mary Oliver, National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Inspiring hope, solace, and courage in living through our losses, author Martín Prechtel, trained in the Tzutujil Maya shamanic tradition, shares profound insights on the relationship between grief and praise in our culture--how the inability that many of us have to grieve and weep properly for the dead is deeply linked with the inability to give praise for living. In modern society, grief is something that we usually experience in private, alone, and without the support of a community. Yet, as Prechtel says, "Grief expressed out loud for someone we have lost, or a country or home we have lost, is in itself the greatest praise we could ever give them. Grief is praise, because it is the natural way love honors what it misses." Prechtel explains that the unexpressed grief prevalent in our society today is the reason for many of the social, cultural, and individual maladies that we are currently experiencing. According to Prechtel, "When you have two centuries of people who have not properly grieved the things that they have lost, the grief shows up as ghosts that inhabit their grandchildren." These "ghosts," he says, can also manifest as disease in the form of tumors, which the Maya refer to as "solidified tears," or in the form of behavioral issues and depression. He goes on to show how this collective, unexpressed energy is the long-held grief of our ancestors manifesting itself, and the work that can be done to liberate this energy so we can heal from the trauma of loss, war, and suffering. At base, this "little book," as the author calls it, can be seen as a companion of encouragement, a little extra light for those deep and noble parts in all of us.
