Persepolis West (Fars, Iran)
Author: ʻAlī Riz̤ā ʻAsgarī Chāvardī
Publisher: BAR International Series
ISBN:
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 316
Book Description
This book represents the final report on the field work carried out in 2008 and 2009 by the Iranian-Italian Joint Archaeological Mission at the archaeological site of Persepolis West, where parts of the town adjacent to the well-known Achaemenid monumental terrace of Persepolis have been located. The eleven trial trenches excavated in areas indicated by the results of Iranian and Iranian-French geophysical surveys represent the first stratigraphic excavations ever carried out on this site, the dating of which is supported by a rich series of radiocarbon datings. Illustration of the excavations is preceded by an accurate geophysical study of the topographical context and accompanied by a detailed and richly illustrated analysis of pottery and other finds: the safe stratigraphic context makes these finds a particularly important source of evidence for our knowledge of the ceramics of Fars during the historic pre-Islamic age. The excavations largely confirm the location of the built-up area of Parsa indicated by geophysical surveys.

Design and Connectivity
Author: Joana Valdez-Tullett
Publisher: BAR International Series
ISBN:
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
Archaeology of Prehistoric Art, Volume 1 Atlantic Rock Art is a rock art tradition which includes emblematic motifs such as cup-marks, cup-and-rings and lines, known to several countries on the Atlantic seaboard. Design and Connectivity springs from an inter-regional study of this tradition, based on an original and innovative methodology applied to an empirical dataset. The project builds on Richard Bradley's work, investigating differences and similarities in Atlantic Art over study areas in five countries: Scotland, England, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. It applies a multi-scalar methodology developed under the principles of Relational Ontology and Assemblage Theory, providing a dynamic perspective on the empirical data. A thorough categorical scheme was scrutinised using a Presence/Absence Matrix, spatial analysis (fieldwork and GIS) and the development of Social Network Analysis (SNA) to relate and explore the relationships and connectivity between study areas. Concepts of developmental psychology support the idea of intentional teaching and cultural transmission.

Forming Identities
Author: Emilio Rodríguez-Álvarez
Publisher: British Archaeological Reports (Oxford) Limited
ISBN: 9781407358185
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 150
Book Description
This book focuses on the manufacturingtechniques of Corinthian potters during the Archaic Period, as well as therelationships established with their natural environment. The results of thisresearch show that the advent of the Black Figure pottery style wasintrinsically related to the adoption by Corinthian potters of newmanufacturing techniques and recipes for their paints and slips. This change ofthe paint and gloss recipes required the use of new raw materials, which takesthe discussion on pottery production at the site from purely technical issuesto social and economic ones, such as access and control of these scarceresources or the relationships between potters and their local community. Thesignificance of this discovery also sheds new light upon the diversity of localstyles in Greece.

Social Media and Employment Law: An International Survey
Author: Anders Etgen Reitz
Publisher: Kluwer Law International B.V.
ISBN: 9041168257
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 883
Book Description
In the last few years, social media has become the primary way of communicating, not only among friends and colleagues but also between employers and employees and between companies and consumers. For employers, the phenomenon offers great opportunities, but also concomitant dangers due primarily to use of social media by employees and employees' representatives. Written in the context of employment laws as well as privacy laws, this book surveys the state of the law in over thirty key jurisdictions, including most of the developed countries of Europe, Asia, and North America and major developing countries worldwide. The publication arose from a seminar prepared by the editors and others at which it was clearly identified that internationally operating employers need a comprehensive and user-friendly multinational summary on employment and labour law questions arising in connection with the use of social media. The book is divided into country chapters, each written by a known local specialist. In order to easily 'navigate' through the issues for each country, the chapters follow a uniform structure, covering the applicable statutory regimes, case law, useful checklists, and recommendations. Among the issues and topics dealt with are the following: - employees' entitlement to use social media at the workplace; - whether employers can require the use of social media by employees; - right of employers to monitor employees' use of social media outside the workplace; - employers' potential liability for employees' misuse of social media; - right of employee representatives to use employers' equipment for social media purposes; - employers' remedies against misuse of social media by employees and employee representatives; - development and drafting of a social media policy; and - role of social media in employer–employee disputes. No other publication exists providing interested parties with a practical and strategic guide to legal issues affecting the use of social media in the workplace. With its easy-to-use country-by-country format and its expert recommendations, this unique resource will prove itself as an incomparable handbook for lawyers, human resources professionals, and in-house counsel advising or working for internationally operating businesses. It will also be of inestimable value for academics and policymakers concerned with the legal ramifications of social media use in the workplace.
