Les politiques de responsabilisation des enseignants : un même mot d'ordre international, des déclinaisons nationales très contrastées. Depuis une vingtaine d'années, les responsables de l'enseignement de nombreux pays mettent en place des objectifs et des indicateurs leur permettant de piloter le système et de mieux réguler le fonctionnement des établissements et des organisations scolaires. Par ailleurs, des procédures d'évaluation des résultats des établissements, et indirectement du travail des enseignants, se développent, accompagnées de mécanismes parfois pressants de reddition de comptes. L'école est ainsi de plus en plus soumise à une obligation de résultats et de performance mise en place sous des appellations diverses : « accountability » dans les pays anglo-saxons, « pilotage » basé sur l'évaluation externe en Europe continentale, « gestion axée sur les résultats » au Québec. L'objectif de cet ouvrage est d'étudier les effets de ces politiques sur le travail et le professionnalisme des enseignants : il s'agit d'interroger les formes d'acceptation, d'adhésion, mais aussi de résistance, de contestation et de changement de relations qu'elles suscitent. Son intérêt est de porter un regard comparatif sur la situation générée dans des pays aux traditions très diverses (Belgique, Brésil, Espagne, France, Québec et Suisse) à travers les résultats d'enquêtes menées auprès des enseignants et des cadres éducatifs et un ensemble d'études de cas complémentaires portant par exemple sur l'évaluation des acquis des élèves, l'orientation, le travail en équipe ou encore la formation des enseignants. Ce livre, sans équivalent dans la littérature francophone, aborde une thématique de forte actualité, la redéfinition du professionnalisme des enseignants, à la croisée de l'intérêt des chercheurs et des préoccupations des acteurs de terrain.
