En France, la recherche en odontologie est majoritairement menée par les établissements universitaires de par leur mission de développement des connaissances. Les étudiants sont initiés à ce sujet à travers une unité d'enseignement optionnelle de Master 1. Dans les faits, peu d'étudiants en odontologie choisissent cette option lors de leur formation initiale alors que les compétences qu'ils pourraient développer sont cruciales pour un chirurgien-dentiste. L'objectif de cette thèse consiste à comprendre s'il existe un "profil type" d'étudiant en odontologie ayant réalisé un Master 1 puis d'évaluer les motivations et les freins, intrinsèques et extrinsèques, à suivre un tel enseignement. Cette démarche a pour but de proposer des pistes d'amélioration pour développer l'attractivité de la recherche dans la formation initiale en odontologie. Pour ce faire, nous avons réalisé une étude pilote par questionnaire portant sur l'attitude des étudiants envers la science et la recherche en odontologie, la perception des barrières auxquelles ils font face lorsqu'ils s'orientent vers un Master 1 et leurs motivations intrinsèques. Les étudiants ayant réalisé un Master ont la volonté de poursuivre la formation initiale la plus complète possible et cherchent un appui lors de leur pratique par les preuves scientifiques. Cependant, il semblerait que les étudiants ayant réalisé ou non un master rencontrent les mêmes barrières pour s'inscrire à cette option et proposent les mêmes améliorations. Plusieurs suggestions sont donc mises en avant pour développer la place de la recherche dans le cursus de formation initiale telles que des groupes de travail étudiants-enseignants avec des discussions de cas cliniques et des justifications par la preuve scientifique, la mise en place de suivis de projets de recherche et enfin la création d'une nouvelle unité d'enseignement obligatoire fortement suggérée par les étudiants.

The invasive character of a primary cancer is greatly dependent on numerous interactions between tumor cells and their extracellular surroundings. Matricellular receptors are defined as (cell-surface) receptors that bind extracellular matrix (ECM) structural proteins and soluble factors dynamically acting on ECM homeostasis. Matricellular receptors mediate numerous signalings from the extracellular environment to cell nucleus and drive main biological functions that are cell growth, survival and migration. Numerous data from the last decade evidence that matricellular receptors are biosensors that allow to a tumor cell answering to microenvironmental variations, and in this sense they are important contributors to tumor cell malignancy. Matricellular receptors represent thus valuable targets for the development of original anti-cancer strategies. Original reports, bibliographic reviews or hypotheses are welcome to improve the basic knowledge of matricellular receptor properties, their spatio-temporal regulation, the dynamic formation of complex receptors and the impact of such interactions on the invasive properties of tumor cells.
