Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521241212
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 168
Book Description
This volume was first published in 1982. Hume Adams and Margaret Murray have produced an atlas that illustrates basic post-mortem techniques in neuropathology. It shows how to remove the brain, the spinal cord, samples of peripheral nerve and muscle, the eye and the contents of the orbit, the arteries in the neck that supply the brain and the structures in the base of the skull. These structures can then be examined in a sequence that will help to elucidate the sequence of events leading to a person's death. How a brain should be dissected is also illustrated, and there is a final chapter on brain neuro-anatomy.

Neuropathology
Author: Colin L. Berry
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 364271353X
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 164
Book Description
Increasing specialisation in pathology reflects the progressive changes in medical practise. The advent of a specialist with a new interest in a hospital or clinic may present the pathologist with a need to extend his or her knowledge to be able to work closely with the clinical practi tioner in order to provide adequate clinical care. Some sub-specialisations are long established, such a one is neu ropathology. However, an exclusive specialist practise is generally con fined to neurosurgical centres and much neuropathology is of necessity, executed by geneni.l pathologists. The areas covered by this volume are those which are commonly managed by the generalist. Professor Adams' account of how the skull and brain should be examined here will give confidence to many by defining a good technique and the careful description of various kinds of vascular injury lesions resulting from raised intracranial pressure will help to clarify repeated difficulty. More subtle forms of damage are also considered in detail. Professor Weller provides a detailed account of how the central nervous system may be examined in a way which permits all of us to prepare material which will allow adequate investigation of central nervous system disease and the proper examination of peripheral nerves. This chapter will become a "handbook" and will be of interest to those in training and established practitioners. Muscle biopsy is also dealt with; this is an area of investigative concern for many gener alists. The role of that singular neuropathological technique is very clearly emphasized.

Autopsy Pathology: A Manual and Atlas
Author: Andrew J Connolly
Publisher: Elsevier Health Sciences
ISBN: 0323287808
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 403
Book Description
A mainstay for pathology residents, Autopsy Pathology is designed with a uniquely combined manual and atlas format that presents today's most complete coverage of performing, interpreting, and reporting post-mortem examinations. This lasting and useful medical reference book offers a practical, step-by-step approach to discussing not only the basics of the specialty, but the performance of specialized autopsy procedures as well. Material is divided into two sections for ease of use: a manual covering specific autopsy procedures, biosafety, generation of autopsy reports, preparation of death certificates, and other essential subjects; and an atlas, organized by organ system, which captures the appearance of the complete spectrum of autopsy findings. Offers expanded coverage of microscopic anatomy. Includes a chapter on performing special dissection procedures that may not be covered during a typical residency. Examines important techniques, such as autopsy photography and radiology, microscopic examination, supplemental laboratory studies, and other investigative approaches. Addresses the latest legal, social, and ethical issues relating to autopsies, as well as quality improvement and assurance. Presents more than 600 full-color photographs depicting common gross and microscopic autopsy findings for every part of the body. Correlates pathologic findings with their clinical causes to enhance diagnostic accuracy. Improved images in the Atlas section provide greater visual understanding. Additional online features include dissection videos demonstrating autopsy techniques; downloadable, commonly used forms for autopsy reports; and calculators for weights and measures. Expert Consult eBook version included with purchase. This enhanced eBook experience offers access to all of the text, figures, images, videos, forms, calculators, and references from the book on a variety of devices.

Ophthalmic Histopathology
Author: W.R. Lee
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1447138430
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 340
Book Description
This book has been written to give guidance to histopathologists who are dealing with pathological specimens submitted by ophthalmologists, whether in a general pathology laboratory or in a specialist ophthalmic pathology laboratory. The bias has been given to the diseases encountered commonly in the routine service or in the autopsy room and the intention is to show how to achieve the maximum information from each specimen. Conventional textbooks deal with diseases of the eye on an anatomical basis, but this is inappropriate for a histopathologist who is studying a globe in which the disease has varying effects on each of the individual tissue components. While unconventional, it seemed more acceptable to lay the book out under the relatively limited and broad headings which ophthalmologists use as indications for enucleation: "trauma", "tumour", "endophthalmitis", "vascular disease", etc. It also seemed logical to include a separate chapter on ocular disease as it is encountered in the autopsy room and, continuing the theme, to consider a keratoplasty specimen and the topics of orbital biopsy and conjunctival biopsy in separate chapters. In each pathological process, whenever appropriate, it was important to include the effects of modern therapeutic measures because this is one of the main features of interest for the clinician. For the beginner, an introductory chapter on the techniques and rationale of the preliminary systematic macroscopic examination of a globe has been included with an account of the supplementary techniques which are essential for an accurate diagnosis.
