Book Description
The threat of deteriorating habitats and a loss of biodiversity make this reference work on the freshwater fishes of British Columbia more necessary than ever before. Eighty-one comprehensive species accounts aid accurate identification and consist of an illustration, the scientific and common names of the fish, its distinguishing characteristics, taxonomic comments, geographic distribution, a life-history summary, a habitat-use summary, and conservation comments. The book is a critical resource for biologists, naturalists, management and conservation officers, anglers, and members of the public who are concerned about our natural heritage. Foreword by Joseph S. Nelson.

Book Description
This report describes a 1998 study of Arctic grayling life history & habitat utilization on three rivers in the Williston Reservoir watershed of British Columbia. Introductory sections describe the study area (the Table River, Anzac River, and the 25-kilometre section of the Parsnip River between the Table & Anzac rivers) and methodology. The research included collection of water temperature data, an egg deposition survey, fry distribution surveys, sampling of young of the year, sampling of suitable habitats, mark recapture studies, and collection of biological information from sampled grayling. Results are presented & discussed with regard to water temperature trends, abundance & distribution of grayling fry, fish density, habitat utilization, characteristics of suitable habitats, abundance of adult grayling & other sport fish (trout, whitefish), age class distribution of grayling, and juvenile growth rates. Based on the findings, management implications & research needs are discussed.
