Resumen: Este trabajo tiene por objetivos determinar el estado actual de la gestión ambiental y fijar las pautas necesarias para el establecimiento e implementación de un Sistema de Gestión Ambiental bajo la norma NTC ISO 14001 en la empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Pereira S.A. E.S.P., prestadora de los servicios públicos de acueducto y alcantarillado en la Ciudad de Pereira, de vital importancia para encaminar sus esfuerzos a la protección del recurso agua a través de la normalización ambiental de sus procesos. El trabajo cuenta con una base razonable de datos e información producto de la evaluación de los procesos, identificando y valorando los aspectos de mayor impacto ambiental, además de verificar el cumplimiento de los requisitos legales, y de esta manera formular un programa ambiental orientado a alcanzar los objetivos y metas organizacionales con el compromiso de la Dirección de la Empresa que aspira a fortalecer su ventaja competitiva en el mercado de los servicios públicos domiciliarios. En la actualidad la Empresa cuenta con un Comité Ambiental conformado por la Alta Dirección responsable de realizar seguimiento y control sistemático a los programas en ejecución y la implementación del Sistema de Gestión Ambiental sumado a este las reuniones de comité para la revisión del Sistema de Gestión de la Calidad que opera desde el año 2003.

According to recent estimates, around 6,000 people – mostly children under five – die every day from diseases caused by inappropriate water and sanitation (WS) services. Much of the academic and political debate surrounding this issue has focused on private sector participation. By shifting the attention towards the influence of governance, Krause examines the political and sectoral institutions that are essential for the provision of WS services. Although we may not think we notice them, storefronts and their signage are meaningful, and the impact they have on people is significant. What the Signs Say argues that the public language of storefronts is a key component to the creation of the place known as Brooklyn, New York. Using a sample of more than two thousand storefronts and over a decade of ethnographic observation and interviews, the study charts two very different types of local Brooklyn retail signage. The unique and consistent features of many words, large lettering, and repetition that make up Old School signage both mark and produce an inclusive and open place. In contrast, the linguistic elements of New School signage, such as brevity and wordplay, signal not only the arrival of gentrification, but also the remaking of Brooklyn as distinctive and exclusive. Shonna Trinch and Edward Snajdr, a sociolinguist and an anthropologist respectively, show how the beliefs and ideas that people take as truths about language and its speakers are deployed in these different sign types. They also present in-depth ethnographic case studies that reveal how gentrification and corporate redevelopment in Brooklyn are intimately connected to public communication, literacy practices, the transformation of motherhood and gender roles, notions of historical preservation, urban planning, and systems of privilege. Far from peripheral or irrelevant, shop signs say loud and clear that language displayed in public always matters.
