Book Description

Book Description
This is a pioneering work on the emerging field of artificial immune systems-highly distributed systems based on the principles of the natural system. Like artificial neural networks, artificial immune systems can learn new information and recall previously learned information. This book provides an overview of artificial immune systems, explaining its applications in areas such as immunological memory, anomaly detection algorithms, and modeling the effects of prior infection on vaccine efficacy.

Book Description
In many ways, our immune systems are as complex as our brains. They learn, predict, remember and adapt, protecting us from the maelstrom of pathogens that infect us daily. Computer Science frequently takes inspiration from the seemingly endless capabilities of natural systems. It should therefore be no s- prise that, like the ?eld of Arti?cial Neural Networks inspired from brains, we now have a vigorous ?eld of research known as Arti?cial Immune Systems (AIS), inspired by our own immune systems. Although still relatively new, the previous 10 years has seen the paradigm of AIS rapidly establish itself as an important biological metaphor. Researchers all over the world fruitfully exploit “immunological ideas” in many di?erent ways to provide mechanisms for tackling a wide variety of applications. In this volume we present the proceedings of ICARIS 2003, the 2nd Int- national Conference on Arti?cial Immune Systems. This was the second int- national conference entirely dedicated to the ?eld, and followed the extremely successful ?rst conference held in Canterbury, UK in 2002. The number and - versityofpapersinthisyear’sconferenceisatributetotheever-growingnumber ofresearchersinthearea, andrepresentativeofthesolidfoundationofworkthat now exists in this area. The range of topics considered is wide. For example, at one end of the spectrum we see a selection of papers providing a necessary t- oretical grounding for the ?eld. At the other end, we have an exciting range of applications to real-world problems, covering, for example, job-shop scheduling and fault detection in refrigeration systems.

Book Description
In this study, an efficient new hybrid approach for multiple sensors data fusion and fault detection is presented, addressing the problem with possible multiple faults, which is based on conventional fuzzy soft clustering and artificial immune system (AIS). The proposed hybrid system approach consists of three main phases. In the first phasesignal separation is performed using the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) algorithm. Subsequently a single (fused) signal based on the information provided from the sensor signals is generated by the fusion engine. The information provided from the previous two phases is used for fault detection in the third phase based on the Artificial Immune System (AIS) negative selection mechanism. The simulations and experiments for multiple sensor systems have confirmed the strength of the new approach for online fusing and fault detection. The hybrid system gives a fault tolerance by handling different problems such as noisy sensor signals and multiple faulty sensors. This makes the new hybrid approach attractive for solving such fusion problems and fault detection during real time operations. This hybrid system is extended for early fault detection in complex mechanical systems based on a set of extracted features; these features characterize the collected sensors data. The hybrid system is able to detect the onset of fault conditions which can lead to critical damage or failure. This early detection of failure signs can provide more effective information for any maintenance actions or corrective procedure decisions.

Book Description
Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) are adaptive systems inspired by the biological immune system and applied to problem solving. This book provides an accessible introduction that will be suitable for anyone who is beginning to study or work in this area. It gives a clear definition of an AIS, sets out the foundations of the topic (including basic algorithms), and analyses how the immune system relates to other biological systems and processes. No prior knowledge of immunology is needed - all the essential background information is covered in the introductory chapters. Key features of the book include: - A discussion of AIS in the context of Computational Intelligence; - Case studies in Autonomous Navigation, Computer Network Security, Job-Shop Scheduling and Data Analysis =B7 An extensive survey of applications; - A framework to help the reader design and understand AIS; - A web site with additional resources including pseudocodes for immune algorithms, and links to related sites. Written primarily for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary and Biologically Inspired Computing, this book will also be of interest to industrial and academic researchers working in related areas.
