Book Description
Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1922, Vol. 6 Crocker1 reported a case of erythema multiforme in which the mouth alone was affected, and which showed attacks of bullous aphthae beginning on the buccal mucous membrane, and Spreading over the tongue and mouth Without any Skin lesion. The affection occurred every two or three months. After being under Observation for over a year, erythema iris lesions appeared on the back Of the hands in one attack, and the patient then remembered that he had had a similar attack some years before. SO far as I can determine from a review of the literature and current textbooks, there are no other reports of cases of erythema multiforme confined to the mucous membranes. Book Description
Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1921, Vol. 4 The literature regarding onychomycosis has not until within recent years presented any cultural proof as to the nature of the fungi causing the disease. The affection is generally considered as one Of great rarity, and while it is recognized as being caused by both Trichophyton and Achorion, the relative frequence of ringworm and favus Of the nails has been a matter of some doubt. Book Description
Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1920, Vol. 2: Succeeding Vol. 38, 1919, the Journal of Cutaneous Diseases Lichen nitidus was first described by Pinkus,1 in 1901, and in an exhaustive paper On the subject, which he Contributed to Neisser's Festschrift, in 1907, the Berlin dermatologist gave a detailed clinical and histologic report of nine cases Of the disorder. Since that time, examples have been recorded by Arndt 2 Kyrle and mcdonagh,3 Reines4 and Bachrach,5 in England and on the Continent, and by myself 6 in this Country. It is probable, as Pinkus has suggested, that the disorder is not nearly so rare as the literature would indicate. Owing to the absence Of subjective symptoms, many cases are undoubt edly overlooked. Book Description
Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1920, Vol. 1: Succeeding Vol. 38, 1919, the Journal of Cutaneous Diseases Although the monumental work of Sabouraud and his followers has thrown a flood of light on the whole subject Of ringworm in the past twenty - five years, this light has shone chiefly for the dermatologist and in some instances apparently rather dimly for him. The general practitioner still gropes in Cimmerian darkness; for him ringworm is still nothing more than bald, scaly patches on the scalps of children or scaly rings on the non-hairy surfaces; eczematoid ringworm and the deep inflammatory trichophytoses Of animal origin do not exist for him - they are a term incognita Whose borders he has not even seen, let alone entered on. It is only by the persistent reporting the less common forms Of the disease that we can hope to teach him that infec tion by the trichophyton and other nearly related fungi may produce cutaneous diseases with widely varying symptoms presenting none Of the clinical features commonly associated with ringworm, and that such infection occasionally produces severe inflammatory symptoms and even, in rare instance, destruction of tissue. It is partly for this reason, but more especially because they present some features of unusual interest to the dermatologist, that the two cases here described. She began to have a nightly fever, together with flushes of intense heat and burning in the palms and soles, followed by copious perspiration and general debility.
