Book Description
It is suggested in this report that portions of the Hagerman National Fish Hatchery site are a significant and important multicomponent archaeological site. Data collected by Max G. Pavesic and Daniel S. Meatte indicated the existence of extensive occupation, and they recognized seven potentially significant localities. One of these seven localities, not tested by; Pavesic and Meatte, was examined during this Phase II study; as was one additional area which was originally located outside of the construction zone. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers redesigned part of the project in an attempt to avoid impacts on the cultural resources present at the site and placed the planned administration building and the cold storage area outside of the known boundaries of the site. The purpose of this Phase II study was to examine these new locations and to evaluate their prehistoric archaeological potential in terms of the criteria of the National Register of Historic Places and to prepare a report containing the relevant data and recommendations. The evaluation and recommendations contained herein are based on this Phase II testing of these two new construction areas. (Author).
