Book Description
Excerpt from Meditations for the Annual Retreat, 1898 On the eve of the Retreat, the Sisters assemble at 5.30 p. m., in the place appointed for the exercises, there to make the preparatory meditation. After the Veni, Sancte, and the invocation, O Mary, conceived without sin, thrice repeated, the Sister selected to read the meditations, will read the third point. At 6 o'clock, the conclusion is made, followed by the particular examen, according to custom: then, supper. On leaving the refectory, the Sisters repair to the Retreat room, recite the Angelus at the sound of the bell, the Da pacem and a decade of the chaplet; after which, the Missionary appointed to give the Retreat, says: 1. Veni, Creator, with the versicle and prayer; 2. Ave, marts stella, with versicle and prayer, followed by the prayer of St. Joseph and that of St. Vincent, under one conclusion; terminating with the invocation: O Mary, conceived without sin, thrice repeated. The Sisters respond to these divers prayers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
FOLLOW ELIZABETH DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE-AND MEET A WHOLE NEW ALICE. Elizabeth, a twenty-four-year-old interior designer living in Brooklyn, New York, encounters a little more than mental static when she sits down for her morning meditation, feeling disconnected from herself and her reality. As she meditates, she forces herself to confront her inner demons head on-including the darker parts that she would rather keep hidden from others, like her boyfriend, Adam. Her inner conflict leads her down a rabbit hole that is far different from the one she remembers from her favorite childhood story. When Elizabeth reaches the bottom of the rabbit hole, she follows a shadowy figure in a familiar blue dress who taunts her and coaxes her deeper into Wonderland. Unable to release herself from her meditation, Elizabeth chases Alice through Wonderland, guided by clues left by Alice, as well as the dark and strangely familiar characters she meets, like the Cheshire Cat, the Tweedle twins, and the Mad Hatter. In Wonderland, Elizabeth comes face to face with her inner light and darkness, and, finally, Alice-and discovers that Alice's secret might be what she has been searching for all along.

Book Description
Excerpt from Spiritual Exercises to Serve for the Annual Retreat of a Carmelite, 1920 My Very Reverend Mother Prioress:- As you have kindly asked my opinion of the "Spiritual Exercises" that you have translated from French into English, and propose to have printed, I can only say with his Eminence, Cardinal Donnet, Archbishop of Bordeaux, who approved them in 1852: "They denote a profound knowledge of the spirit of Carmel, and will serve greatly to maintain and develop it." What pleases me above all is that the author insists so much on the meditation of the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which is the pure doctrine of our Holy Mother Teresa of Jesus, and of our Father St. John of the Cross. "No one can advance in virtue says the latter, "but in following Our Lord Jesus Christ; He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, the only gate by which any one who pretends to be saved, should enter. Let the first care of your heart therefore be, to excite in yourself an ardent desire to imitate Jesus Christ in all your works, trying to do everything as Our Lord Himself would do it". And our Holy Mother Teresa teaches us that "in the beginning of the life of prayer, we should meditate assiduously on the life of Jesus Christ", that "meditation on the Passion is the method of prayer by which all should commence and continue"; that "it is a sure and excellent road which we should not leave until Our Lord Himself raises us to higher ways".
