There is, as may be expected in view of the large turnover, a consider able amount oi wear and tear with the more popular literature, and 575 volumes were withdrawn as worn out. Of these 335 were replaced with new copies and the rest cancelled. A further 16 volumes were destroyed by the sanitary inspectors, this being a precaution taken to prevent any possibility of the spread of infectious disease by means of library books.
