Excerpt from Annual Report of the Legislative Library of the Province of Manitoba for 1963 During this past year, the Archives Branch undertook several research projects connected with the rapidly approaching centennial celebrations of 1967 and 1970. Considerable time was given to providing a Winnipeg architect with background information concerning the possible restoration of Lower Fort Garry. Other centennial projects were concerned with the history of trucking in Canada, and with the development of the Bank of Montreal in Western Canada. As a centre of reference and research for the general public and for the various departments of the Provincial Government, the Archives Branch dealt with 594 personal callers, 332 correspondents, and 1032 telephone requests regarding historical material, pictures, Public Records, the Historic Sites Advisory Board, and the Manitoba Historical Society. 335 individuals had access to the Archives manuscript holdings. 11 of the entire total represents the use made of the Archives Branch by government departments.
