Book Description
Snow characterization measurements acquired by the snow rate meter, fall-velocity indicator and snow-structure recorder obtained during the SNOW-ONE-B field experiment are presented. Some further analyses of the SNOW-ONE-A data are also given. Correlations between snow rates, electro-optical and liquid-water-content measurements are shown with the relationships of fall velocities with these parameters are discussed. (Author).

Book Description
To make realistic estimates of precipitable hydrometeors, meteorological modeling requires valid inter-relationships for the paramerization of mass concentrations, precipitation rates, fall velocities, number densities, etc. In response to these needs, AFGL has initiated a modest effort with objectives of defining such relationships and providing the means to verify model outputs. Measurements documenting the characteristics of naturally falling snow were obtained during the SNOW-ONE-A and SNOW-ONE-B field experiments. These consist of data acquired by three unique instruments: a snow-rate meter (SRM), a fall-velocity indicator (FVI), and a snow-structure recorder (SSR). This report describes the results of our participation in these field programs. Snow rates, particle-fall velocities, and snow-crystal information are presented. Correlations between snow rate and electro-optical transmittance/attenuation and mass-concentration measurements are illustrated. Relationships of fall velocity with snow-crystal size from analyzed data are given along with a method of determining fall velocity through knowledge of snow rate and liquid-water content. The data obtained during these two field experiments indicate that it may be possible to define mathematical relationships between precipitation rate and mass concentration and between fall velocity and snowflake size for broad categories of snow types.

Book Description
Seismoelectric coupling and its current and potential future applications The seismoelectric method—the naturally-occurring coupling of seismic waves to electromagnetic fields—can provide insight into important properties of porous media. With a variety of potential environmental and engineering uses, as well as larger scale applications such as earthquake detection and oil and gas exploration, it offers a number of advantages over conventional geophysical methods. Seismoelectric Exploration: Theory, Experiments, and Applications explores the coupling between poroelastic and electromagnetic disturbances, discussing laboratory experiments, numerical modeling techniques, recent theoretical developments, and field studies. Volume highlights include: Physics of the seismoelectric effect at the microscale Governing equations describing coupled seismo-electromagnetic fields Examples of successful seismoelectric field experiments in different geological settings Current and potential applications of seismoelectric coupling Noise removal techniques for seismoelectric field measurements The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals.
