Book Description
Geometric Data Analysis (GDA) is the name suggested by P. Suppes (Stanford University) to designate the approach to Multivariate Statistics initiated by Benzécri as Correspondence Analysis, an approach that has become more and more used and appreciated over the years. This book presents the full formalization of GDA in terms of linear algebra - the most original and far-reaching consequential feature of the approach - and shows also how to integrate the standard statistical tools such as Analysis of Variance, including Bayesian methods. Chapter 9, Research Case Studies, is nearly a book in itself; it presents the methodology in action on three extensive applications, one for medicine, one from political science, and one from education (data borrowed from the Stanford computer-based Educational Program for Gifted Youth ). Thus the readership of the book concerns both mathematicians interested in the applications of mathematics, and researchers willing to master an exceptionally powerful approach of statistical data analysis.

Book Description
The first part of this book is devoted to methods seeking relevant dimensions of data. The variables thus obtained provide a synthetic description which often results in a graphical representation of the data. After a general presentation of the discriminating analysis, the second part is devoted to clustering methods which constitute another method, often complementary to the methods described in the first part, to synthesize and to analyze the data. The book concludes by examining the links existing between data mining and data analysis.

Book Description
Visualization and Verbalization of Data shows how correspondence analysis and related techniques enable the display of data in graphical form, which results in the verbalization of the structures in data. Renowned researchers in the field trace the history of these techniques and cover their current applications. The first part of the book explains the historical origins of correspondence analysis and associated methods. The second part concentrates on the contributions made by the school of Jean-Paul Benzécri and related movements, such as social space and geometric data analysis. Although these topics are viewed from a French perspective, the book makes them understandable to an international audience. Throughout the text, well-known experts illustrate the use of the methods in practice. Examples include the spatial visualization of multivariate data, cluster analysis in computer science, the transformation of a textual data set into numerical data, the use of quantitative and qualitative variables in multiple factor analysis, different possibilities of recoding data prior to visualization, and the application of duality diagram theory to the analysis of a contingency table.

Book Description
Cross-disciplinary research on how computer-assisted decision making can be supported by sophisticated data analysis techniques and recent developments in knowledge-based systems research are described in this volume, with emphasis on marketing applications. Aspects dealt with include market-share analysis (spreadsheet based), media planning, stochastic market modelling, marketing data analysis and new product introduction management (all knowledge-based, partly using PROLOG). These contributions emphasize links between decision support, expert knowledge research and marketing. Other application areas are debt and credit management and personnel disposition (KEE based), portfolio management (PROLOG based) and vehicle scheduling. Concrete interconnections between data analysis and marketing can be seen in the contributions on classification and unfolding of market data, market segmentation by forced classification, conjoint analysis applications, ideal point product mapping, MDS in telecommunications pricing and multi-mode marketing data evaluations.

Book Description
Recent Developments in Clustering and Data Analysis presents the results of clustering and multidimensional data analysis research conducted primarily in Japan and France. This book focuses on the significance of the data itself and on the informatics of the data. Organized into four sections encompassing 35 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the quantification of qualitative data as a method of analyzing statistically multidimensional data. This text then examines the rules of interpretation of correspondence cluster analysis by selecting classes and explaining variables involved in the algorithm of hierarchical classification. Other chapters consider the bootstrap and cross-validation methods, which are applied to the logistic ad nonparametric regression analyses of ordered categorical responses. The final chapter deals with a simpler treatment to classify the sleep state. This book is a valuable resource for researchers and workers in the fields from the behavioral sciences, biological sciences, medicine, and industrial sciences.

Book Description
This book collects together 45 papers covering various aspects of the analysis of multiway data arrays. Mathematical properties of three-way and multiway arrays are investigated and their utilization for the statistical interpretation of complex data sets is emphasized. The volume is divided into 5 chapters. A specific introduction to each chapter has been prepared by the Editorial Board. Different methods of analysis are considered including: longitudinal and multimode factor analysis, generalized canonical analysis, multidimensional scaling, multiway classification techniques, model based approaches. The reader can find many original contributions to this area, as well as interesting applications in several fields of research such as psychology, economics, sociology and bio-medicine.

Book Description
Geometric Data Analysis designates the approach of Multivariate Statistics that conceptualizes the set of observations as a Euclidean cloud of points. Combinatorial Inference in Geometric Data Analysis gives an overview of multidimensional statistical inference methods applicable to clouds of points that make no assumption on the process of generating data or distributions, and that are not based on random modelling but on permutation procedures recasting in a combinatorial framework. It focuses particularly on the comparison of a group of observations to a reference population (combinatorial test) or to a reference value of a location parameter (geometric test), and on problems of homogeneity, that is the comparison of several groups for two basic designs. These methods involve the use of combinatorial procedures to build a reference set in which we place the data. The chosen test statistics lead to original extensions, such as the geometric interpretation of the observed level, and the construction of a compatibility region. Features: Defines precisely the object under study in the context of multidimensional procedures, that is clouds of points Presents combinatorial tests and related computations with R and Coheris SPAD software Includes four original case studies to illustrate application of the tests Includes necessary mathematical background to ensure it is self–contained This book is suitable for researchers and students of multivariate statistics, as well as applied researchers of various scientific disciplines. It could be used for a specialized course taught at either master or PhD level.
