Book Description
This introductory text is devoted to exposing the underlying nature of price formation in financial markets as a predominantly sociological phenomenon that relates individual decision-making to emergent and co-evolving social and financial structures. Two different levels of this sociological influence are considered: First, we examine how price formation results from the social dynamics of interacting individuals, where interaction occurs either through the price or by direct communication. Then the same processes are revisited and examined at the level of larger groups of individuals. In this book, models of both levels of socio-finance are presented, and it is shown, in particular, how complexity theory provides the conceptual and methodological tools needed to understand and describe such phenomena. Accordingly, readers are first given a broad introduction to the standard economic theory of rational financial markets and will come to understand its shortcomings with the help of concrete examples. Complexity theory is then introduced in order to properly account for behavioral decision-making and match the observed market dynamics. This book is conceived as a primer for newcomers to the field, as well as for practitioners seeking new insights into the field of complexity science applied to socio-economic systems in general, and financial markets and price formation in particular.

Book Description
Social Finance: An Introduction to the Future of Finance provides an engaging, accessible overview of the relatively new field of social finance, blending insights from finance, corporate social responsibility, and social entrepreneurship. It highlights the key challenges facing social finance, while also laying out its basics and showcasing its vast opportunities. In addition to the foundation and history of social finance, topics covered include microfinance, ESGs, social impact bonds, crowdfunding, and banking. Case studies are peppered throughout, and a balance of global examples and perspectives are included. Each chapter contains digestible information and insights on the respective topic. Because this is an introductory book, there is a glossary explaining key terms for readers without a background in the subject. This will be a valuable text for students of finance, investment, social entrepreneurship, social innovation, and related areas, as well as anyone seeking to dive into the intersection of finance and social impact. It will also be useful to researchers, professionals, and policy-makers interested in social finance. Andreas Andrikopoulos, author of "The Essentials of Social Finance" "This is a text that outlines the essential features of social finance. Written with enthusiasm and vision, this text highlights the necessity of social change, delineates a paradigm shift in the financial services industry, and endorses the pursuit of sustainability as a catalyst for environmental resilience" Harrison Martindale, Educational and Finance Lead at Bumper Investing "Social Finance: An Introduction to the Future Of Finance builds the necessary foundation every young investor needs to understand the impact of their investing style and strategy. Additionally, the text will inspire you to seek the change you want to see in the world through the lens of many perspectives and practices." Dr. Suparna Kure, Co-Director at the Cooperative Food Empowerment Directive This book is my new go-to for financial literacy. It brings vision into the galaxies of young people who are figuring out what financial-adulting means in a world experiencing an elevating climate crisis, multiple financial crises, and the heels of a global pandemic. This book provides a pithy introduction to topics that are typically daunting to folks with an in-depth understanding. The authors left me with a sense of hope for our collective tomorrows-that they lie in the hands of youth leaders like the authors! My only question is, how do we integrate this book into high school curricula?
