Book Description
Three reports entitled "National Meat-Packing Waste Mangement Research and Development Program," "Industrial Waste Study of the Meat Product Industry," and "Waste Disposal in the Meat Industry," are compiled herein. These reports are a compendium of waste management technology of the meat industry. The goal of this compendium is to serve the meat industry, researchers, and other individuals or agencies concerned with abating environmental pollution. These reports discuss the magnitude and sources of the wastes, available treatment and control technology, additional research information needed, means of developing such information, and the ultimate waste management goal. The Industrial Waste Study of the Meat Product Industry report has been released for distribution to: (1) organizations working directly with the Effluent Guidelines Program to dvelop data for consideration during the preparation of effluent limitations (contractors, industrial trade associations) and (2) U.S. EPA staff. EPA cautions users of this report that it is in draft form and therefore subject to revision. Recipients agree by their acceptance of this compendium not to distribut this report any further. The meat industry has displayed an interest in development of new treatment and control porcesses for environmental protection. In many instances, in-plant changes have been implemented and treatment facilities installed to abat environmental pollution. Pending effluent limitations are resulting in increased interest in research and development programs in meat-packing waste management. Scientistsat the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Laboratory in Ada, Oklahoma, are directing such a program within the Environmental Protection Agency.

Book Description
All industries produce waste products that unless treated or mitigated in some way will be harmful to the human or natural environment. These waste products will generally need to be identified according to the industrial process in question, neutralized or rendered less harmful and finally disposed of into the surrounding land, air or watercourses. It is therefore of vital importance to every environmental, pollution or plant manager or engineer that these processes be fully understood and implemented or the cost to either the company or the environment can be catastrophic. With increasing government regulation of pollution, as well as willingness to levy punitive fines for transgressions, and the ever-present financial imperative to carry out these activities in the most efficient and cost-effective manner it is the responsibility of the professionals in question to ensure that they have the most up-to-date information available at their disposal. This book provides not only that, but the only available methodology for identifying which waste types are produced from which industrial processes, and how they can be treated. This unique feature makes this book one that every environmental, industrial and plant manager, engineer and consultant will want to have on their bookshelf. Essential aspect of, and requirement for, all manufacturing industryThe only up-to-date book on this subject area availableTakes a practical applications standpoint, not a theoretical approach
