Book Description
Reacting to increased competition, companies are adopting inter-organizational information systems (IOS) that share information across the supply chain partners; this sharing requires trust. To better understand the phenomenon of trust between partners, we developed an integrated model of trust in supply chains with theoretical underpinnings from Transaction Cost Economics and also with environmental factors like Information Technology and Power. The framework also takes into consideration the association between trust and final outcome measures, such as performance and satisfaction, throughout the supply chain relationship. By assessing the interconnectivity of trust in inter-organizational information systems coupled with environmental factors, our research model will help researchers as well as practitioners develop a more comprehensive and holistic understanding of factors contributing to supply chain success.

Book Description
Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, Otto Beisheim School of Management Vallendar (Kuehne Foundation Chair of Logistics and Services Management), course: Literature Seminar in Supply Chain Management, language: English, abstract: Today’s business environment is unstable and uncertain. Shorter product life cycles, uncertain demand due to quickly changing customer needs, offshore production, higher supply chain complexity as a consequence of global and severe competition, and fast technological progress are all factors that foster this. “The economic environment is dynamic and the only certainty about it is it will continue to change." To cope with a high degree of uncertainty and increasing supply chain risk a company needs to establish a robust, resilient but still efficient supply chain. Due to the strong competition companies have to be responsive, introduce customized products quickly to the market and constantly work on their internal and external operations in order to gain a competitive advantage. They not only have to offer quality to gain customer satisfaction, but also speed and a reasonable price.

Book Description
Globalization of business markets and the rapid development of information technology are making information management more and more important. By combining managerial and economic theory, this book builds a framework to demonstrate facilitating factors for inter-organizational information exchange and the effects of information exchange on supply chain compliance and business performance. We have strong indications, both theoretical and empirical, that such an integrative conceptual framework is needed to grasp the complexity of information exchange between business partners. Using empirical evidence from the poultry chain in Mainland China, this book supports the complementary roles between contractual governance and trust in the process of improving the willingness to communicate. It also proposes that communication quality needs to be broader than information quality. Finally, it illustrates that in order to stand out from main competitors, companies should not only commit to realizing more potential communication benefits for themselves, but also for their main partners. Different solutions for buyers and suppliers in optimizing their business performance are also discussed. This book is recommended for a broad audience of professionals, practitioners and policy makers who concern themselves with information management, supply chain management, channel relationship management and performance management.

Book Description
Advances in information technology (IT) have enabled increased information integration across firms, which can potentially lead to higher operational efficiency. In this paper, we build upon prior literature in information systems (IS), supply chain management, economics and strategy to posit that due to inter-firm interdependence and coordination costs, successful information integration requires concomitant improvements in joint planning and synchronized processes across firms. Using a dataset involving 870 firms, we develop a test to assess the potential complementarity between information integration and inter-organizational coordination mechanisms, and find that in tandem with coordination, information integration results in a significant positive impact on operational efficiency. Recognizing that trust is potentially endogenous in inter-organizational relationships, we examine the impact of IT-enabled inter-firm processes that foster trust, and study the impact of trust on the joint impact of information integration and coordination on supply chain performance. Incorporating a correction for self-selection, we find that trust has a positive influence on the joint effect of information integration and coordination. Our findings offer insights regarding organizational processes that need to be in place when firms undertake information integration initiatives.

Book Description
The Technology, Organization, Environment (TOE) framework has been extensively studied in the context of information technology. However, the TOE framework has not yet been utilized to examine determinants of supply chain performance. This study aims to investigate the complex linkages which exist in supply chain performance via the mediating roles of supply chain integration using transaction cost economics, trust theory, resource-based view, resource dependence, and contingency theories as guide. We employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using a two-stage disjoint approach, concentrating on reflective-formative type of higher order constructs. We reviewed the literature to find relevant metrics for similar constructs and applied established scales to assess constructs. A large-scale study was conducted with over 200 senior strategic executives of manufacturing companies. Supply chain integration had positive direct effects on supply chain performance, which was significant and supported. Technology, Organizational Culture, and Environmental Uncertainties had positive impacts on supply chain performance through the mediating roles of supply chain integration that were significant and supported as well. The implications of the study findings and directions are provided for future research.
