Book Description
This report describes seismic measurements taken at Northrop's inertial test facility, Norwood, Massachusetts under the joint auspices of AFCRL, NASA-ERC, and Northrop Corporation. The purpose of these measurements and subsequent analyses is to characterize the motion environment of the test facility in terms relevant to facility design and guidance-component performance tests. Observations of regional and facility environmental motions are described in terms of second-order statistics that serve as a basis for optimum prediction operators. Approaches are recommended for testing gyro sensitivity to the seismic environment, and for use in gyro performance tests for determination and removal of induced error terms. (Author).

A Motion Study of the Frank J. Seiler Research Laboratory Guidance Test Facility
Author: Francis A. Crowley
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Guidance systems (Flight)
Languages : en
Pages : 28
Book Description
Motion measurements taken at the inertial guidance test facility of the Frank J. Seiler Research Laboratory are applied to problems of facility design and inertial hardware testing. Motion measurements are processed to form unambiguous estimates of platform strain, rotation, and translation to allow a determination of the loop response of the test platform to ground motion and intralaboratory disturbances. In its open loop state, intralaboratory disturbances are found to be dominant source of platform motion, even under quiet conditions. (Author).

Precursory Siloed Missile Geokinetic Study, Hill Air Force Base, Utah
Author: Francis A. Crowley
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Guided missile silos
Languages : en
Pages : 36
Book Description
A siloed missile facility was occupied over a fortnight for the purpose of determining site related limitations for conducting a long-term geokinetic study. The study focused on the ground-silo-missile mount transmissibility characteristics and the field evaluation of prototype hardware. Broadband motion measurements were made of the effects of near-site loading, explosive generated motions, and environmental motions peculiar to the site. Results are presented in spectral formats. Study objectives have been met; the implementation for a long-term geokinetic siloed missile study is practicable. (Author).

Earth Motions and Their Effects on Inertial Instrument Performance
Author: Robert A. Gray
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Earth movements
Languages : en
Pages : 68
Book Description
A limiting factor in realizing the ultimate sensitivity and associated system accuracy of the more advanced inertial guidance instrumentation is the adverse influence of earth motions on performance. Motions of concern to inertial guidance testing and operations are categorized as propagating and non-propagating. Propagating motions include earth background noise and seismic events while non-propagating motions include local and regional tilts, earth tides, polar wobble, irregularities in earth rate, and precession. Motion measurement philosophy and instrumentation are discussed. (Author).
