Dynamics and Stability Issues of Poppet Type Pressure Relief Valves
Author: Ferris M. Pfeiffer
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Relief valves
Languages : en
Pages : 178
Book Description
In this work, the dynamics of a poppet-type relief valve are studied for the purposes of generating an accurate linear model and stability criterion that may be used in design and simulation of hydraulic systems. This study begins by developing a flow rate model for the fluid flow through the valve. Next, a nonlinear model of the valve system, including the steady and transient flow forces that act on the poppet, is developed. From here, a linearized third order model is produced from which a stability criterion for the system is deduced using the Routh-Hurwitz method. The nonlinear and linearized models are compared using simulation studies. The simulation studies show the accuracy of the linear model. Design sensitivity analysis is performed, and recommendations are made that lead to improved stability characteristics of future valve designs. The linear model is shown to be valid for sufficiently stable systems. The stability criterion is shown to be valid for the system under consideration.

Modeling and Stability Analysis of a Pressure Compensator in a Flow-control Valve
Author: Parmesh Venkateswaran
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Electronic dissertations
Languages : en
Pages : 138
Book Description
In a variety of machinery, working members are driven by hydraulic cylinders. Such hydraulic systems are used to control multiple functions, such as raising and lowering the member, tilting and rotating the member about an axis, and sliding the member fore and aft. Flow-control valves are used in these hydraulic systems to control rate of flow from one part of the system to another. A proportional-priority-pressure compensating type of flow-control valve is used to proportionally divide the pump flow between the branches of the circuit based on their requirement. The valve uses a pressure compensator for accurate flow rate control. The pressure compensator maintains a constant pressure drop across the main spool valve. The pressure compensator is an integral part of the flow-control valve. In this thesis, a model and stability analysis for the pressure compensator is presented.
