Book Description
Excerpt from Importance of the Study of Legal Medicine: A Lecture Introductory to the Course on Medical Jurisprudence, at the New York Medical College In the case of Donnelly, ' who was tried and executed for the murder of Moses, the question of suicide was raised, and rejected on account of the severity of the wound, which produced death by bleeding from the deep thyroid artery. Dr. Finnell in Julv last exhibited to the members of Pathological Society the cervical vertebra of a man who had come to his death in a precisely similar manner to Moses, but, as was alleged, by suicide. He was an intemperate man, and while laboring under delirium tremens is supposed to have arisen at night and plung ed a shoemaker's knife into his throat with such violence that it was found impacted in the vertebra, and then returned to bed; in this state he was found in the morning by his wife, who was sleeping by his side. I have not sufficient evidence before me to determine whether the de ceased died of a self-inflicted wound or otherwisefil' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Introduction to Medical Jurisprudence In this book an attempt has been made to state the essentials of Medical Jurisprudence as definitely and, at the same time, as briefly as possible, without producing a 'cram' book. The points of law most likely to arise are set forth without comment, since in this form the reader can find out what the law is - concerning insanity, for example - more satisfactorily than when it is stated together with confusing opinions with regard to what it ought to be. Only the poisons that are most frequently fatal are described. It is hoped that the alphabetical arrangement of them, and the table of doses of the remedies usually employed in their treatment, will be found convenient. Book Description
Excerpt from Lectures on Medical Jurisprudence While retaining the lectures on General Toxicology, the Editor has thought it better to omit Special Toxicology from the work, as this subject has been so often and so ably treated of in books devoted to that department of legal medicine. The Editor here desires to thank several kind friends for valuable assistance and suggestions in the preparation of this book for the press, especially Mr. George Cadenhead, procurator-fiscal of Aberdeen; Mr. J. M. Thomson, bar rister-at - law in Edinburgh; and Dr. John G. Hall of Aber deen; and also Mr. James Cadenhead of Aberdeen, who etched the illustrations for the work.
